'Feature' walls

Generally I hate them, but I don't know how to describe what we'd like to do.

  1. We have a corridor downstairs loo and would like to put some funky paper one of the walls. I've seen some crossword paper on the design blogs but cannot find anywhere to buy it. Best to just rip up the paper and some puzzle books??

  1. We have a mahoosive wall on the landing as you go up our stairs. Double height that you can see from the hallway and front door when you walk in the house. It has a skylight above it that we're going to open up properly and we'd like to put a giant mirror on the wall to catch the light. At the moment we've played it safe with a magnolia colour but are now feeling brave about making that wall really ZING!

House is Victorian and we've got most of the coving/picture rails etc so I don't want to go too modern as the rest of the house is generally fairly traditional. Also need to keep in mind that we need to carpet the stairs and landings soon...and I'm sort of loving the idea of stripes. However, a funky wall and stripes would be a bit hectic!

Any inspiration for me, ladies?

Thanks in advance! x

Have you referenced houzz. If I am looking for ideas on a theme or colour I have in mind, I go on this site. If you put in the search field; feature wall or striped carpet, you should get back a ton of pics from intl interior designers. I think feature walls have largely had their day in terms of a end wall or chimney breast, but it can still be done well in the right space and with the right choice of colour/pattern and contrasting walls.

Feature walls are considered very naff now, so I'd avoid.

Who cares if its fashionable or what strangers think- if you like feature walls then go for it. I like your crossword idea, very creative!

I think for a lover of wallpaper, pattern, colour, wow factor and wallpaper they are a great compromise without overwhelming a room.
