How to safely store precious family photos and other bits?

My gran has passed down to me, all of her family photos and keepsakes and I am anxious to store them safely. I have loads of photos and very delicate items, prayer books and rosary beads etc.

My gran had been keeping it all in a cardboard box but I don't think that's the best way to store such precious things.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated!

Scan the photos and get them stored online, then if you lose the original at least you have a copy. We have all our old photos backed up on harddrives in three different houses - we are losing nothing! For storage, a sealed tin seems to work as well as anything. Damp is your enemy, but shouldnt be able to penetrate a tightly sealed Roses tin :)
