Ikea blinds.. how to make the cords safe on short windows anyone?

Hi

we have just fitted black out blind from ikea on all our windows. we had them in our last house and used the plastic cord unit to attatch them to the wall making them safe. However in the new place, our windows are not as deep and the cords are longer than the depth of the window so would need shortened and made back in to a loop to be able to use the unit that comes with them, or they would beed cut.. what's best and has anyone found a way around this?
