Need large map for DS's bedroom - ideally one that we can stick pins in or magnets on.

We are at present decorating the kids bedrooms and DS is next - his rooom is magnolia - as is everything in the damn house - and we are thinking of painting it blue - well we are fighting against him wanting two walls green and two blue but anyway...

Every year DH takes DS on a trip (DD is away with her father so no being left out) and they go to different cities across Europe - Planes, Trains, Boats etc.. well this means that DS is obsessed with maps and tracking where he has been - so thought maybe a map on/in which he could put pins or magnets to track where he has been - ideally I would do it with pins and wool/string to tarck each individual trip (OCD Alert) - so need some ideas of what sort of map in terms of being able to actually tarck his trips.

Not a wallpaper though as he has plenty of room but fitted cupboards and not a whole wall to use up IYKWIM.

Many thanks.

World (or Europe) map from Stanfords. here

Use wallpaper paste to stick it to a roll of cork backing (or cork tiles).

No idea if this would work, but it's what I would do!

How about this?

It's a giant world map noticeboard which is also magnet. Any good?

Oh. Oops. I just noticed the price...

As you were. Smile

Another idea - you can get magnetic paint like [[http://www.magneticpaintshop.co.uk/ this]. You could perhaps get a piece of MDF, paint it with magnetic paint, and then stick a world map on top? Would probably have to test it first, to see if the paint is still magnetic with paper on top ...

Sorry, magnetic paint link here.

Notonthehighstreet have some awesome personalise-able maps, including on with gold foil that you can scratch off to reveal different coloured countries underneath. Hang on, will try to find a few links.

Great minds and all that, overly! My link was for Notonthehighstreet too. Love that website.

The cork board one sounds like it would fit the bill, actually.

Notjust, I know - great site. Love it!

John Lewis sell the scratch off sets. They are practically the same, although not hand made, and cost £15. My OH has is holidays mapped out on ours in the study, he loves it.

Have you looked at Future Mapping Company ? they have an option to magnetise.

I've got a non-magnetty map of theirs, and love it.

The Stanford's map is brilliant, because it's in, I think, 8 pieces, you can have the centre of your map coinciding with the centre of your universe, so could be Europe/UK or US or antipodes. It's easy to apply, but do double check dimensions, and endlessly fascinating.

Thanks guys - think the Stanfords map is a bit large and we wouldn;t get the full benefit of it.

We have the scratch off one already and he loves it!

The Future Mapping Company one is fabthough - fits the bill exactley - I may get 2 in different colours - one to track his journeys and one to use as a noticeoard.

Thank you so much - I knew you ladies would have stuff up your sleeve.
