Should landlord repair/replace the dishwasher?

DS and his girlfriend have just rented their first home together. It is lovely and, overall, they are very happy with it but there are a few snags.

One of them is that the integrated dishwasher in the flat does not work. The agent tells them that the landlord is not obliged to repair or replace it as it is a luxury item despite it being on the inventory.

Can anybody tell me if this is correct or if they should push them for it please.

Was it advertised as having a dishwasher? If it was mentioned as a feature when they went to look at the flat then I would have thought it would count as fraud to then provide a non-working one, if that makes sense.

If it was me I'd probably get someone in to fix it myself and then knock the cost off the rent but then I'm bloody minded like that. The landlord would probably be glad it was sorted.

I'm a BTL landlord and think that sounds like rubbish. If it was an appliance that came with a flat, the landlord should fix it. I'm sure the rent reflects the 'luxury' fittings in this flat.

Of course the landlord should fix the dishwasher! What on earth is the agent on about?
