Help me find a warm colour for a small dark sitting room please!

It's a room I've never liked. It has three doors, leading to kitchen, hall and dining room and a tiny window. It is featureless and drab.

It used to be red which I liked but then I thought I'd try a more neutral colour so went for Papyrus (fired earth), but it's dull and cold!

We are having a party in a few weeks time and I want it to look warm and welcoming.

I felt maybe a softer pinker red might be better. My mum hated the red (she felt she was in a fire!) but I liked it in that room.

What else can I do to make it cosy? Advice please!

I think a lot comes down to the lighting and soft furnishings. If the room's dark I'd go for cream walls and make sure the cushions and rugs were warm colours, and get some lamps to put in the corners. If you really want colour on the walls try doing just one wall (maybe the red you had previously), that should add to the effect without making it overpowering.
