Laminate floor day tomorrow! Dark or light, what colour?

I've just remembered were supposed to decide by tomorrow.

I don't care if laminate is deemed naff or anything, it's got to be better than our cheap disgusting carpet.

The bloke dropped some samples off the other day. We've got one that's like your normal golden oak type thing, a darkish one that's not too dark, and a light one which is paler than the oak with white-type tones in it.

Does that make sense?

We've got pale beech-type coloured doors, and the dark coloured ikea units.

Vague, I know.

Any thoughts? (I don't want it to go the way of feature walls and leather sofas!)

We have dark laminate in our flat. It looks lovely, but shows scratches easily. It is probably poor quality though. A lighter one may have less obvious scratch marks.

I like oak - it's got a nice warm feel to it

Thanks Cuddy, but they're all called oak!

I'd go with the mid colour or the dark one.I've got the dark one and i love it despite previously being a hardened carpet supporter, so much easier to keep the place looking clean and tidy for some reason. have had no trouble with scratches despite having rowdy football booted boys :)

Haha! Looking at those pics I would say the light one :)

It depends on what you are putting in the room. If you have wooden furniture I would go for a colour as far removed from it as possible.

Furniture is a mish mash of free cycle and ikea with home dyed throws Grin

But dark tv unit and the dark effect expedit units and lack shelf.

This is really the first proper grown up thing we've done with a house.

I'm thinking the darker one...

Although I haven't seen them in daylight yet...

I like the darker one, second choice the medium one. I really don't like that pale wood laminate.

Yep, I'm still with the darker one this morning. I reckon it's not necessarily darker, as such, just more brown, less orange like our hideous kitchen cupboards

If it was me choosing, I'd go for the darker one too.

I've got one similar to the medium colour & it's been great.

The darker one. You need either a complete contrast to the doors or an exact match rather than close but not quite iykwim!
