I know, I know, I know it's been done loads of times but...woodburning stoves. Has anyone got/had any of these models: Eco Ideal, Morso 04, Lovenholm or a Merlin?

I don't have one (yet) but friends who have done tons of research have all gone for a Morso.

Am v Envy!

I have a Morso and I would recommend it.

Hmm, Morso is lovely but the most expensive...

We actually initially got a cheaper make but decided to upgrade once we'd seen how good the Morso was comparatively, and I'm very glad we did. It's an expensive business all round with the installation costs so worth going that little bit extra if you can IMO.

Having said that I have no experience with the other makes you mention so while I thoroughly recommend the Morso,it's not to say that any of the others aren't every bit as good.....sorry,not much help!

We fell in love with the Morso.
But our budget stopped at this
www.stovesareus.co.uk/all-stoves/wood-burning-stoves/aarrow-ecoburn-5-woodburning-stove.html
Fitted including lining the chimney and HETAS cert came to just under £1300
we love it
the big plain window means you get to watch the fire ....

One of my friends bought a second hand Morso from eBay. Apparently there's so little that can go wrong with them, it's a safe bet.

We have the Morso 1410 multifuel (complete with the squirrel on the side) never looked back - seems to heat the rooms around it too. We had one in our last house and got the same model in our new house.

That's very much less than the quotes I've had Talkin for the whole job Envy I do agree that as we have to live with it forever we should try to get the one we like the look of best. But the others have all been recommended to us as well - all British made, which seems to matter, apparently.

I would agree with Talkin that one big window is a plus rather than with smaller 'panes'.
Its easier to clean.

Ebay is a good idea but have a feeling I should have sorted it out before now Hmm

The only trouble with ebay is transporting them, unless you have strapping weightlifters and all the gear.

They are very very very very heavy.

dunno why British made should be an issue. I would rather trust the scandis who actually do get cold cold winters !

Just to give you another option you don't need! My neighbour researched thoroughly and bought one of these. Not sure if they are cheaper than Morsos??

OOH yes, and check that your stove complies with the smoke rules in your area ....
we are allowed anything
other side of our road is smokeless zone ....

British-made was my poor shorthand for not made in China. Agree that the Scandi models/engineering seem most desirable.

amazonian - that looks interesting. Will research a bit more

Smoke-free zone here

I have seen one of the Cleanburn stoves in a lcal showroom and it was lovely, made in UK too and cheaper than the Morsos.
Think it was the Lovenholm.

Having a stove dilemma myself. Want the flue encased with a false chimney breast, but not sure whether it'll make the room seem to small. It's a big room, but were used to its present size iyswim

Does anyone know how Morso compare with clearview?

Probably a bit of useless information, but in Germany, very cold winters, Tiled Ovens ( Kachelofen) were brilliant. They were tallish, about 1m30 high and various widths and were completely tiled. The tiles got very hot and kept their heat long after the fire died down somewhat, but we had no glass window to see the flames. The whole house was stifling hot - only a small house with low ceilings- and had to open the windows and it was minus 18 outside , in the afternoon !!!! Very popular in Germany, and some may now have windows to see the flames, but think ours was simply too hot for any glass, except cooking ovens have glass windows ???

We have a Dovre (scandi brand) and it's great.

I've got an aarrow/stratford eco too. Good stove, efficient and can burn wood in smoke free zones.

I've heard good things about Morso stoves but we have a Clearview (after much research by DH) which is fab. The showroom in Ludlow is gorgeous too!

Holly, that's good to know that the Clearview is fab! Do you have the Pioneer model or a bigger one?

Another recommendation for Aarrow here. Our budget wouldn't stretch to Morso etc, but we did love the look of Aarrow and it's works brilliantly
