we need to redo our bathroom....it has a small footprint but high ceiling....so I was thinking of a sink fitted into a unit like this
www.4bathrooms.co.uk/index.php/600-minimalist-white-gloss-vanity-unit.html

which will be useful for storage but I don't really like them....will have matching bath panel i think, plain white with plain white tiles but are they really naff? have done some looking at design ideas and nearly all sinks are shown either wall hanging or pedestel

bathroom is currently horrid navy blue/yellow tiles and terracotta walls so find it hard to picture anything a[part from white......Grin

Our Living Room Designer had a thought: He said Not to add a Clunky,heavy-
Looking sink at the base of everything.Draws attention.Use a delicate looking
sink,adds Spaciousness.Also,Build UP.UP the walls.Where a cabinet is Lacking,
Place shiny, reflective items,mirrors...anything to enlarge the area to the naked
Eye.For accents,use Depths of color:say,like-Sea Greens,Turquoise,lite pastel
"sea Pinks".Keep the Floor area a Light color, and use Shiny Accents for the
Towel bars, light switch and so on.Good Luck. Jill.

we have just redone a small bathroom and seperate loo.
Tiles are white with a black and grey border at eye height, short pojection loo and grey marble floor in the loo.
Bathroom same tiles and border but lino rather than marble floor (all our pumbing unter the floor area so want easy access if needed)
White imperial bath with large shower screen and white high gloss bath panel, pedastal basin and large but slimline cabinet on the wall.
If you need storage you can buy bath panels that open up to give extra storage around the bath area. I dont like those basin cabinets as i think they shrink in a small bathroom.

if it's already small and cramped, a vanity will make it worse

if you feel the need for a cabinet, put it on the wall about eye height. Or have some corner shelving.

Never put cabs or shelves above the basin because it will crack when you drop a jar or bottle into it.

Wall cabinets sound like a good idea if you have the ceiling height. You could have a row of something like these or these

Or even two rows if your ceilings are really high, the upper row would only be reachable with steps but could be really useful for rarely used stuff.

I would stick with a wall hung or pedestal basin, and wall cabinets, so as not to take up floor space with a vanity unit.

Re the colour scheme - all white can look a bit utilitarian unless the tiles are the very expensive sort! A bit of colour (even if it's a neutral colour like stone) would break it up a bit. Are you going for modern or retro style fittings?

thanks for the ideas - was thinking modern as I prefer a cleaner look but house is victorian - so could go older...ceilings about 3m so reckon could do 2 rows as
floor space is a premium...has anyone tried a folding sliding screen above the bath? like the look of this one
www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=sliding+shower+screen&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=5967609909624238439&sa=X&ei=58JZUKq3Ise4hAeW34GgAw&ved=0CFYQ8wIwAQ

was planning tiles all around bath area and splash back then just painting walls something calm like this......
