Plug sockets

My ds has a double plug socket right next to his bed and despite having the safety caps in it he switches the power on and off all night and I am worried one day he will pull the caps out.
I want to put a blank panel on it, can I just unscrew the current plug hole panel bit and replace it with a blank plastic cover ie no holes for plugs? Or do I have to do something else with the stuff behind the socket cover? Clueless! Thanks

Take a look at this first before you decide to do anything. We have these covers on sockets that I didn't want little fingers to fiddle with (TV/Fridge etc.) so may be an option for you if you definitely want to cover your sockets.

If you are posting from the UK, it will be far safer without the hole covers in it

Since they were introduced in 1948, the "square pin" BS1363 socket has been the world's safest. Behind the live and neutral holes is an insulating shutter that only opens to let the pins of the plug enter, when the Earth pin has already entered (thats one of several reasons why it is longer than the others). The socket and plug combination were designed with many years experience of the other types of plug and socket used throughout the world, and great ingenuity was used to engineer a better and safer system with a number of improved features. It is, however, fairly big.

In most other countries of the world, it is possible to push a screwdriver or nail or tiny finger into the pin holes of a socket. That is not posible in the UK.

I am not surprised that there are still some householders ion the UK who don't know that, but I am disgusted that there are shops that sell socket covers to the ignorant and credulous, that actually reduce safety.

Ha! Beat you to it PJ Grin! It would explain why my brother never got electrocuted when his favourite pastime as a child was sticking a screwdriver into the sockets.

Wow thanks guys. So all the fingernail breaking I have done trying to prise the damn covers out every time I need to use a plug has been in vain.
Hmm!
