I am looking for a house sometime later in the year and wondering of there was a site that specialised in helping people with animals find a house.

I would keep an eye out for private lets on your local Gumtree.

I would be honest with every single estate agent tell them you are looking for a house to rent that allows pets.

Tell them what pets you have also be prepared to pay extra deposit to cover extra damage (that they believe will occur)

Be wary of Gumtree a lot of scammers browse on there

ie emailing you photos of a flat ask you to forward them part of a deposit so they will hold it for you etc and flat doesn't really exist and they disappear.

I was asked to forward a deposit I laughed at him.

I just looked on rightmove. Any that didn't specifically state no pets I asked. We have a dog and I was pleasantly surprised by how many were ok with it. We had to pay an extra £100 deposit and we have to have the house sprayed for fleas before we leave.

Just to add we have been here a year and our dog has made no damage, I wouldn't want a pet that ripped my home to bits! I think someone would be more wary of a puppy as we had to explain what breed, age and temperament of our dog.

That's good to know then. So when I get over to England and start looking I should let the agent know that I am happy to pay a bit more deposit and also am prepared to spray the house for fleas when I leave.

Probably wouldn't mention the flea spraying during your initial approach though - might make it sound as though you know your pets have fleas!

We paid a larger deposit, and had to have the carpets 'professionally cleaned' prior to leaving. I too was pleasantly surprised how many properties, even ones that said no pets in the listing, allowed a mature, sensible dog when it was presented as part of the overall (professional, family, relocating) package.

I think the deinfesting is standard so no need to mention it. I just made sure I explained that my old dog sleep 23 hours a day and is very soft and never ever scratches. Sell your pet!!

My dog is lovely and mature coming up 3. She will have a clean bill of health as I am bringing her from Greece so will be vaccinated deflead and whatever else we will need to do.
My only worry is though is she is a GSD so maybe that will be a problem.
