Homebuyers report from mortgage lender or go independent?

I think we're going to have a homebuyers report done on the property we are buying. Should I pay the extra and get it done via the mortgage company or get someone independent in to do it?

Part of me wants to get it all done via the lender to keep things simple, as I gave birth three days ago and could do without the hassle. But I'm wondering whether that would be a false economy and if we should just pay for the valuation, and then get someone in to do a separate homebuyers? Can anyone advise whether it's better to get your own person in? Thanks!

Thanks Issima. I wonder whether the standard of survey is any different between an independent surveor and one linked with the mortgage company?

We did that, too, and not only was the independent surveyor super quick, it also worked out much cheaper, even though we also had to pay the mortgage company for a valuation. Plus, we were able to raise any concerns we had directly with the surveyor prior to his inspection. Good luck!

Are you in Scotland? If yes, the seller pays for the report and it will be transcribed to suit your lender so no need to fork out for another.

Thanks Rathernot - In our case it would work out slightly more expensive to pay for a separate independent one as the valuation is pretty expensive. Outwardly at least, the house is in good condition so we've got no particular concerns to raise, although I guess that it might be easier to talk to an independent about the results of the survey if it highlights anything that concerns us. It would be good to get it done quickly, I think.

No, not in Scotland gregs. That system sounds much easier!
