White Corian work surfaces and built in sink-yay or nay?

Has anyone got this and is it worth the £££? Also reading conflicting things on whether it stains or is it stain proof? Have loved idea of Corian for ages but now finally getting round to fitting new kitchen am panicking that I may be making expensive mistake.

It depends on how you want to use your kitchen.
If you want to be careful an worry about stains (as corian does stain) and worry about putting hot pans down.
Corian is very stunning with seamless joints and can be moulded (under heat) to many shapes. It can be repaired and the scratches can be sanded out.

or do you want a hard wearing top? Like quartz
where you don't have to worry about putting a hot pan down? and none staines

I have white corian worksurfaces with seamlessly moulded corian sinks and it is brilliant. Totally stainproof and looks like new nearly 5 years in. I don't put hot pans down on it but then I wouldn't on any surface! Hated wood when I had it (constant re-oiling a PITA) , ditto granite ( put a glass down slightly hard and it shattered.) Would always choose Corian in future. (Any temporary 'staining' from tea, curry, wine etc is removed in seconds with a bit of flash bleach or similar.)

Depends how clean and tidy you are. I am probably going to go for white corian but planning inset stainless steel sink as worried we are too slovenly to keep sink clean with corian.

Thanks for your replies-ogresownstairs-that's convinced me and now off researching and costing it all.

pootlebug - sorry if I sound a bit over enthusiastic, but just to add that i have found corian sinks easier to keep looking good than stainless steel, which I always had before. No water stains, dulling or discolouration from limescale etc. The seamlessness helps too, obviously. When we were choosing our kitchen the planner suggested stainless steel sinks but I'd seen a picture in a mag that I really liked, and thought 'sod it, I'll just have to spend a bit more time cleaning!' - but it's actually loads better. Am quite clean and tidy but not obsessive by any means.

Friend has it and wished she'd got a darker colour as it marks quite easily e.g. Print from bread bags etc transferring onto it. I think the marks do come off eventually but just a PITA. I have white laminate in my kitchen (not my choice!) and it is awful, we constantly have to bleach it.

MIL has black corian and it is great, I am hoping to have it in my new kitchen.

I have light grey corian worksurfaces and they're lovely. The staining can be a bit of a pain but they either fade or come off eventually.

Thanks mrscumberbatch,a bit worried about the possible staining but think will go for Corian.

if all in one piece with the worktop, it can crack. Perhaps if all the units were very firmly mounted it would not happen.

teabags will stain. "Barkeepers Friend" will get it clean. I don't find bleach keeps it clean. If you ever leave anything which is made of steel and not stainless (e.g. bean can; tin opener; grater) in the sink, you will get a rust stain

We're in a rented house with Corian worksurfaces and find it a bit of a pain tbh. The first time a teabag marked it I nearly had a heart attack as I thought it wouldn't go away - it did eventually, but was visible for a while (no bleach allowed as on septic tank).

I wouldn't go for it personally - even if most of the marks do come out, they look unpleasant until they do!

Thanks for all replies-have already ordered cameo white Corian-Frostyfingers-staining does sound like it could be a problem. Head was spinning with all the different opinions re staining so have opted for it as love the seamless look of it all. Will report back in August when it should all be completed!

Good choice... Really and truly, hand on heart, my white corian sinks and worktops do not have a single stain after 5 years.

Hi there

Am in the 'shall i get white corian surfaces' conundrum! Just wondering how your are after a few years? Cheers

My sister has cream corian. Anything strongly coloured like curry or anything tomato based has to be bleached off. It's a particular pita when you have to think twice about putting things in the sink.

So...how is it?! I’m looking to install in my kitchen and wondered how you are getting on with it? Is it easy to keep clean?

Corian is easy to keep clean if you use correct cleaner - bar keepers friend which is a bit like the old ajax without the abrasive - available most places like Tesco John Lewis etc. The more you use it along with a scotchbrite pad the better the surface gets to repel stains. Nothing marks it permanantly. Avoid using bleach as it attacks the surface and stains get a hold easier. If you must then diluted only
