My husband has painted a radiator in or house and the paint effect is anything but smooth ! Anyone had this happen / know where we might have gone wrong ?

Was the radiator turned off during and after painting? They are tricky, as the grooving produces runs unless you keep going over it.

Do you mean dirt? Rust? Cracks? Brushmarks?

Yes it was turned off - really bad brush marks.... :-(

How many coats of paint have you done. You will probably need 2 or 3 to get a good finish.

Only one - it says it should only need one ..,.

I bet he used radiator paint? It's rubbish. I used it once but never again. Use satinwood paint instead. It goes on much better and doesn't smell as much.

brush marks, paint probably too thick, or he brushed and it was already drying.

rub down, wipe clean, and try again. I agree about Satinwood. Thin it a tiny bit if it seems too thick and stir thoroughly.

Two thin coats are better than one thick.

Not sure how easy sanding the lumpy paint will be but will give it a go and maybe try the satin wood !

Thanks x
