Black oven ... with silver chimney hood?

So we're redoing our kitchen and I need to get appliances sorted.

Dishwasher / washing machine / tumble dryer and fridge freezer all silver.

I've found a black Rangemaster on offer at £1,200.

With all of our other appliances silver, would a black oven look odd? If not, what colour chimney hood would look better - silver or black?

Would appreciate any thoughts!

Thanks

I'd think it would look ok - presumably even a black oven has silver bits on so will "go" in that sense? if so then I'd say a silver hood. a black one would be very dominant.

i also think a black hood would be very dominant, that was my concern.

thanks for posting

I have a black and glass hood. Its fine. Not dominant at all.

Pascha - do you mind if I ask what colour appliances you have?

i think it's more to do with whether the silver finishes match. ie is the dishwasher, fridge etc all brushed aluminium? would the chimney hood be shiny? if they all match i'd go for silver, if not then black.

good point claude. no they don't all match. i'm thinking black might work better. rangemasters website shows kitchen layout, where you can play about with different colours and the black looks better on there. but then i guess it probably would do on an interactive design set up.

thanks all for posting. interestingly a lot of the images online (when i google rangemaster images) are without chimney hoods.

Hmm ok. black cooker, black glass hob, black fridge, black worktop, black sink, white units.

Blush Of course it doesn't stand out.

Pascha, that all sounds very co-ordinated and lovely :)

I thought I'd be able to find some pictures online, but they all have black hoods with black cookers. I'm thinking silver hood with a black cooker might look a little odd.

There's an Elica hood that looks like a Gosvarini Caboche pendant light. Could you have one of those? here

Foscarini. Grrr to typing on an iPad

LittleFrieda - I love the look of that, but surely it would be a nightmare to clean and our kitchen isn't going to be that modern looking (it probably costs more than the cost of our kitchen too!)?? It's given me an idea for the look of the dining area light though (although can't afford the price tag!).

Thanks

We've got this Baumatic hood it looks nice with the glass and we don't use the full chimney length so its not overbearing at all. I don't think i'd want a hood that was full metal and heavy looking.

Thanks Pascha, that is nice and I'm wondering whether incorporating glass is a good idea myself. I think it might look less 'stand out' against our silver appliances, to have a bit less black.

Agh, I'm rubbish at making decisions like this! I'm tempted to go for a silver oven (though they are £200 more!), as that would be far easier!

Personally, I would go for the silver if you can afford it. £200 over the years of use and looking lovingly at it doesn't seem much (but I'm only at the start of the process and can see the finances spinning out of control already!).

I know, I'm starting to think we need a silver oven!

I've been to Comet this morning, just to look at them all and have sort of set my heart on a Rangemasters one now, but I think getting a silver one will be better all around and there seems far more choice on silver hoods, so hoping I might be able to claw back something on the budget there and get a cheaper one than budgeted for.

Artyjools - these things definitely do spiral out of control!

i second going for a silver oven, but it will still look nice in black. whatever you end up with you'll enjoy. i made a mistake with the colour of my splashbacks but i don't notice or think about it now - i like it!
