Quick vote: corner bath or walk-in shower

I'm doing up a one-bed flat with a long narrow bathroom to sell on. It currently has a very short bath in it which is next to useless. I never have baths and am tempted to move the door so that you enter from the bedroom and have a big shower where the current doorway is and then loo and basin. I worry that lots of people still like baths but the only way of getting a full-size one in is a corner bath which I'm not mad on. WWYD?

I like baths so where possible I would put a bath in with a shower over it. I rented a flat with just a shower and of course it was fine, but I did miss a bath and would want one if I was buying.

Personally I couldn't live without a bath, and if I viewed a house without one I would be factoring in the cost of replacing the bathroom in order to install one. Corner baths are naff though - is there no way you could change the layout to put a proper one in?

What about an offset bath still a corner bath but not as ugly!

I'd go for a shower. Corner baths are not full size. Have you ever been in one? They are fine for children but for a 1 bed flat I think a really good shower would be much better. Especially if you are aiming at the bachelor market.

How long will you be there? If a long term thing go with shower only. but if moving on in a few years then small bath with shower above is better than no bath/ corner bath IMO even if seems useless to you as a shower kind of person. You don't want to give potential buyers a reason not to want it. Some people have no vision so would not think it easy to swap themselves.

I love a good shower and can't see the point of a bath that is not roomy.

Shower. Hate hate hate corner baths - I would be factoring in the cost of ripping it out! Surely in a 1 bed flat with a pokey bathroom people don't expect a bath?! In a flat without a shower I would also be factoring adding one.

Thanks for all your answers, hmm, bath seems to be winning, curses. The bathroom is a really awful shape - 115cm x 290cm with a door on one short end and a window on the other. The flat's in London, it's a Victorian conversion and it will be quite modern interior. An offset bath might be the way to go as, I agree, they are marginally less appalling than normal corner baths. Any more thoughts?

Can you turn the door to open outwards and then re configure. Makes a huge difference in small bathrooms if there is room on teh landing outside

What Noddy said, try double doors (cutting panel door in 2) if necessary. They look OK if painted well and chrome handles. Then maybe try a 150 bath with frameless shower screen and really good shower over bath - if ceiling is low enough you could fit round raindance showerhead in ceiling. Small sink with no unit underneath to create feeling of space and built in shelves above maybe? But I think you defo need a bath, just not dreaded corner bath...

A one bed flat? Definitely just a shower. It's a starter home for a single or couple at the max.

I'd go for a shower too - if you install a bath that's smaller than the normal length it will be obvious that's the only option because of space, and a small bath is worse than no bath IMO. With only one bedroom, you're not aiming at the family market. A shower will make the bathroom appear more spacious too - go for as large a shower head as you can though.

I've been stripping out all afternoon and I think the door can be moved to the long wall on the bit of the landing right at the top of the stairs so I think I might be able to get a normal bath in there plus loo and sink. I don't know why people are so attached to baths - I haven't had one in years - but there's no point narrowing my potential market. Thanks for letting me know how strongly some people feel about their soaks .

We only have a shower, I take bath salts on holiday so I can have a bath and just relax.

I like to have the option really.

(I also like boiling water taps and waste disposal units in kitchens if you haven't done the kitchen yet)

Definitely a shower. For me (like most people i reckon) I shower every day but baths are an occasional treat. A nice big shower is lovely. But a small bath is always disappointing!

We have a short bath and its awful. I would go with a shower, but then you can only put shower room on the floor plan which makes it immediately obvious its a really small room. Tough one. A really good shower would be better I think.

I did what you are doing and put in a shower in a tiny bathroom. It transformed the place. I can't remember the last time I had a bath.

I vote for a bath of some sort. Most people would like the option of a bath or shower.

I have showers most often, but every now and again like a nice snooze soak on an evening.

I'm getting one of these www.omnitub.co.uk and installing shower over it so it's a super luxurious shower with option of bath. We ummed and ahhed about shower or shower bath issue and there wasn't any other small bath option that I could live with. But hopefully this will be right for us!
