Housing association new build

Hi after a dreadful 6 months, I have been lucky enough to be offered a new build house with my local housing association through social housing list. It won't be available until all building work is completed mid april. Does anyone have any experience of social housing lists and new builds. I don't know whether any floor coverings i.e carpets will be provided. I have been to look and obviously its plain concrete down... any ideas?? Due to recent circumstances I am temporarily out of work and on income support so would find it impossible to carpet. Help!!

When I had a HA flat from new it came with carpet and lino in the kitchen. Pretty basic though and not the quality I'd have bought. Having said that it was better than the concrete floors my mum's new private house came with! It also came with a washing machine but no cooker. Mine was one where I bought 25% and rented the other 75% so not sure it that makes a difference.

thanks Mollie, I tried phoning them but the woman I got through to had no idea. They do a furniture pack where you can get cooker, fridge freezer, washer for 10 pounds a month but there is no mention of carpet or flooring anywhere.

We moved into a new build HA house and it had Lino inthe kit hen and that was it. Nothing in any other rooms including bathrooms. It is on a mixed build estate as well.

Is it very hard to get a HA property? How long did you have to wait?

My friend got one a few years back, and actually I'm hoping to get one.
They had no flooring but she was given a grant which paid to floor it all (cheaply, but fine)

Hi

It's fairly standard for associations to lay non slip flooring in bathroom and kitchen but that's all. It's quite rare to have carpet in other rooms as association will then be responsible for the repairing/renewing them.

Karma, we were in a B&B for 10 months with DC1 when he was 8mo. before we got offered a place.

karma - think it depends where you live and your personal circumstances. the person i know was on the list for about 15 years.
