gender-neutral and bright nursery decor?

Where?

We've been told we're probably having a girl, but there is that small chance that it could be a boy.

Much of the wallpaper I've seen is very gender divided - ballet shoes/pink versus diggers/blue.

So have you seen any cool nursery stuff? I've just started another thread about bright scandi-type baby clothes and would love a nursery in this vein. As I said on the clothing thread, I can look in the high street shops (though nothing has grabbed me yet) so I would love to see some cool websites for wallpaper/bedding/pictures/lighting or decals etc.

Anyone know?

Ikea best IMO for this kind of thing, I always think what a refreshing change when walking through children's Ikea.

I'd go for plain walls though as you will be redecorating when they are about 3 and insisting on Bob the Builder decor rather than fluffy teddies!

It can be nice to do the walls in just really plain magnolia paint and then get "stikarounds" to decorate. You just stick them to the wall and they peel off without leaving marks. I have a girl and a boy and both have these and they change every couple of years according to their taste.

All I would say is that be prepared for your child to go to nursery and when she is about 2/3/4 she could be heavily influenced by the wall to wall pink that she sees her peers having. My DD has an array of bright clothes, a couple of pink things only. She chooses the pink every day, it's been like this since she started nursery.

So maybe white walls with bright decals. It's only a little box room, so there's not much visible wall anyway. And if it's just white and primary colours, there's less problem with mixing things from different ranges I suppose.

And I've just remembered vertbaudet do brights too (it's been a while since I was in the baby market)

And I realise I may not be able to hold off the pink for long, but at least for a year or two I can create a room that pleases my aesthetic!

Have a look in some book shops and good stationary shops, I saw some fab books and wrapping papers that would of looked great decorating a babys room. Find a book with illustrations you like cut out the pages and frame them.

Nursery wall art... you could try a retailer called Hus and Hem. I got some nice pictures for my son's room from there which are very gender neutral. I got this and put it in an ikea frame and it looks quite nice if I do say so myself.

Curtains in anything other than yuck fabrics for kids can be a bit of a problem IMHO. Designers Guild do OK children's stuff that's not too gender-specific. Otherwise and providing you've got a sewing machine you can make curtains fairly easily. Ikea do good kids' fabric.

If you're looking for wallpaper you could try mini moderns, or Osborne and Little do a nice range of papers by Quentin Blake.

Oh, it has to be white walls with bright accessories. Looks lovely and easy to change. When we moved a couple of years ago, I painted both dds' rooms white, with neutral carpets and blinds, much to dd1's annoyance. She wanted pink with rainbows. I am SO glad I resisted because within six months her favourite colour was blue. Then yellow. It is so easy and cheap to ring the changes with a cushion and throw, and not to have to deal with lobbying for repainting.

My cousin has just decorated her nursery in the theme of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It is gorgeous. She has used green, red and yellow for the soft furnishing, white walls and stencilled a caterpillar on the walls.

Tbh, I'm not sure your baby is going to mind what colour his/her bedroom is decked out in. We did everything white and later on our DC will choose what character paper they'd like for their bedrooms when they can talk.:)
