What would you want in an ensuite?

Can anyone help resolve a long running dispute between me and DH! We are doing up our house to sell and want to add an ensuite to the master bedroom to impress buyers. We don't have that much space, and don't know what to put in. Walk in shower a defo, and loo, but what else? Double sink or full size bath? We couldn't do both. Also if a bath, would a standalone bath be better?
What would impress you? A full size bath

Excuse odd end to message, phone / one handed typing /breastfeeding posting issues blush

I have 2 en-suites in my house. I think they should be practical only. Main bathroom is for the fancy posh stuff.

A good strong shower, a toilet and a sink. That is all you need. Maybe some storage for bog rolls, 3 for 2 soap/shampoo stocks... that sort of thing.

A clean one would impress me and someone to hand me a pre-warmed towel.

MrsBrownX Sat 11-Feb-12 23:31:39

Not watch me pee/ poo/ bathe though; that would be wrong!

Hhmm. I might think it odd if the ensuite room was big enough for a bath and didn't have one. But I suppose it depends on how impressive the shower is. More boxes will probably be ticked if you had a shower over a bath done nicely plus double sinks if you have space. That seems to be what professional housebuilders/developers put in so might be a clue. Good luck

Def heated towel rail, good shower and sink but I wouldn't be bothered about a bath, or even a loo really.

What size is the ensuite?

Scarletbanner Sat 11-Feb-12 23:35:55

Oh no, you need a loo! Loo and shower is enough, as long as it's not a massive space.

GlaikitFizzog Sat 11-Feb-12 23:37:20

I'd prefer a bath to a double sink. I don't get double sinks. A good powerful shower, loo, some clever storage. If you really wanted to impress me, then ceiling mounted speakers and an Ipod dock somewhere and a wine fridge grin!

Loo
Sink
Shower
Heated Towel rail

We are doing our ensuite at the moment.

We have 3 girls so with that in mind for the future we have a coakroom and main bathroom and will then have an ensuite with vary decent shower, heated towel rail, sink with mirror and storage.

GlaikitFizzog Sat 11-Feb-12 23:37:59

Definitely a loo 100%.

sasamunde Sat 11-Feb-12 23:50:20

We can sort of choose the size of the room as we're creating it with a partition wall. Probably about 3m wide by 1.8m.

Loving the wine fridge idea!

ShineYourButtonsWithBrasso Sat 11-Feb-12 23:57:57

We don't need an extra loo and would like a bigger shower.

4 bed hse with 2 loo's already and ensuite is next door to the main bathroom.

I suppose it all depends on size and location.

My en suite has a shower, sink, toilet, storage space and a heated radiator. That's enough I reckon! Save the bath for the bathroom and since you mention limited space I wouldn't bother with double sinks either smile

Complete soundproofing.

it really depends on what your family bathroom is like

if it is a good sized room with a full sized bath then I would expect the ensuite to be about convienience
-roll out of bed, go to the loo, fall into the shower, brush my teeth

so on my logic -toilet, shower, full sized sink (some idiot aka the ex put a cloakroom sink i my ensuite and I hate it with a passion!) towel radiator!

if your main bathroom is not very big then I would put a bath in the ensuite

Fiolondon Sun 12-Feb-12 07:45:05

Agree with workshy but with potentially 3m x 1.8m to play with (and a good main bathroom) I'd be tempted to just have a loo, full sized sink, hood/generous shower, underfloor heating and heated towel rail - but make it compact, then try to carve out something resembling a walk in wardrobe/dressing area with the rest of the space.......

Fiolondon Sun 12-Feb-12 07:45:35

Good not hood!

wonkylegs Sun 12-Feb-12 08:09:33

I'd also put some serious thought into the extractor fan... Go for quiet & efficient rather than cheap otherwise you will get irritated by it and won't run it and get a damp smelly internal room.... I see this a lot.
Best ones are or almost silent.

CMOTDibbler Sun 12-Feb-12 08:13:44

In our ensuite we have giganto shower (tis fantastic), loo, basin, towel rail rad, and will get round to putting in some storage at some point.

What you absolutely want is a heated mirror

mousymouseafraidofdogs Sun 12-Feb-12 08:15:53

loo
sink
very powerfull (power)shower
very very powerfull extractor fan
good heating (nothing worse than going for a shower in a cold room)

mousymouseafraidofdogs Sun 12-Feb-12 08:18:21

oh, and the extractor fan seperate from the light so you don't wake up anyone when just going for a pee at night.
