Anyone got a house that was underpinned donkeys years ago - where do you get your insurance?

I know it's dull, but I'm banging my head against a brick wall here.
Our house was underpinned in 1988 as was most of the area, this year I'm shopping around for insurance feeling a bit fleeced by the £760 renewal quote, and all I'm getting is "no".....
I was just told by Aviva that unless i have structural engineers report dated within the last 12 months they won't quote at all.
Obviously I'll ask the neighbours but the one's I've asked so far have said they've stuck with their original insurer when they bought the house.
Any advice?????

Hi pepperrabbit I'm pretty sure that the original insurer (the one who paid out when the house was underpinned ) has to continue insuring the property, even after it has been sold. We had this issue a couple of years ago when we were buying a house.

Someone who works in insurance or who is a property lawyer/conveyancer will be along in a minute though, I'm sure.

Is Aviva currently insuring your house? If not, who is?

Swinton. On a property underpinned in 2001, no engineer's report.

Zurich are our current insurers, been with them 3 years or so. They were spectacularly unhelpful last year when I advised of some building work we had done, then walloped up the premium even though the whole house has now been re-wired and re-plumbed and is now fully certified for all this work - so ought to be safer Hmm
I've never made a claim.
I'll try Swinton - thanks Smile
