I had absolutely no idea how much it would cost to move us, and am totally at the quotes we have had.

We are relocating 2hrs north of here. We have a 4 bed house with a reasonable amount of stuff, but not excessive. We want them to do the full packing.

The first quote was for £2,600 which I thought was high, but then I just got a quote from Pickfords for £3,900 !!!

Getting a small local chap in to quote later this week too, as the first two have been large, national firms. I know that it is going to take 3 days, but even so....

I would have thought the quote was okay! Have you asked what it would have been without them packing your stuff? We paid £500 to move 10miles, and we packed our stuff.

We moved 3 hours away and had a 5 bed house. We didn't have loads of stuff either (the removal company were amazed how decluttered it was!!).

We were quoted £ 1,500 for a full packing service or £ 1,200 without. In the end we did the packing ourselves but they dismantled and reassembled any furniture such as beds, desks etc. The price included VAT and insurance of up to £ 50k. It was a 2 day job due to the distance involved and would have been 3 if they had done our packing. We had most of the boxes already although we did get them to drop some more off which they did with no hassle.

This was in the South East so it is possible to get reasonable quotes. We found them through a removal website and then asked them to quote. Would never have found them otherwise as they were based 40 mins away from us.

I suppose we did pay about £500 last time, which was for about half the stuff, moving 2 miles up the road, we did the packing, and it only took a day.

I was shocked as I was thinking it was more likely to be £1500 than £3900!

Yes, I think that sounds expensive. We've just been quoted about £5k to pack and move us from a 4 bed place....... but that's moving from Switzerland to London!

Zeeky if you are in Kent have a look at a company called Moving On based in Ashford. That is who we used and the guys were excellent.

We paid £1400 to move from a (full) 2 bed, including packing, using Pretloves, who were excellent. 1 day just packing and 1 day packing and moving (about 3 miles!). In case you're East Anglia/N London, their website is www.pretloves.com/
