Pulled off our rubbish fire surround and the awful box that I'd made to go inside it and am now looking at a big hole in our chimney breast. There is a gas supply already to the hole and the chimney looks clear (well I can see the sky when I poke my head in?!)
So as far as I can figure my options are a gas fire basket an open fire (obviously after getting the chimney swept) any other gas fire or some sort of stove. Our living room is smallish and currently quite warm so although ideally whatever we get would give off some heat, I'm more bothered about looks. Would love a woodburning stove but think it may look daft in a small room? Are the gas stoves rubbish looking in comparison? Need something fairly modern to fit with the rest of the house (1930's semi) but I'm not into very contemporary. Has anyone got any suggestions?
