We are about to complete the purchase of our new house, which needs quite a lot of work doing to it - the list includes a new damp course, roof repairs, electrical update, replacement of the central heating system and a kitchen extension to name but a few.
Do you have any recommendations for tradespeople you have used and are happy with their work and any that should be avoided like the plague?
TIA

We have just had our bathroom done (shower cubicle out, bath and shower over put in, fully tiled walls and floor, electric underfloor heating and dual fuel radiator in new location, wash basin moved, and mirror with electric shaver socket installed) by a great guy called Marcus who is based in Lincoln.
He also replaced all the radiators but couldn't do the new boiler as he isn't gas certified so he recommended someone who did a great job.
For wires, tiles, plumbing v happy to recomend him, and would trust his recommendation for other trades

I am in the process of having some building work done and there is a lot to be said for having a builder who is reasonably local and recommended. We don't even have a skip because he takes all the rubbish back to his yard in the trailer. You don't want them to spend all their time travelling not building.

If you are having that much work it might pay you to bide your time and find out once you have moved in who your neighbours /school-gate friends have used for similar work. Once you start mentioning you have work to do, everyone will know / be related to a builder!

Will you need an architect for your extension - they will have their own list of builders they like to work with?

I would reccommend a builder & a plumber that has done work for us in the past on our wreck of a house when we bought it 3 years ago, very good rates, trustworthy and reliable.

They are based around the notts/derbyshire area.
Pm me if you want their details.
