How long to tidy up before a viewing?!

Ours is just on the market. But faint at thought of making it look good for each viewing. Any tips on speedy tidying. It was good for the photos, but chucked stuff in car boot beforehand Blush. And how long do you spend - 30 mins or 4 hours...

Ask your agent to stick to Saturday viewings - then you can try to get as many in on the same day as possible. You can concentrate on making it gorgeous for weekends and you dont have to live in a showhome during the week. Try to declutter/chuck away what you can now, clear as many surfaces as you can, clean windows and shine shiny things. Can all your unchuckable clutter/any big ugly toys/ big bags go in the attic - or in your car again for viewings?

I'd stick with the throwing everything into the car boot! You did it for the photos, you can do it again. The buyers will probably be there not much more than 20/30 mins or so anyway depending how big the house is. You'll have to keep on top of the cleaning but there is no way round that.

Sympathies - it does dry you slightly potty but just try and live as if somebody was coming to view that day. That's what we did with our last house.

Good luck btw.

Some of those e-cloths to polish all mirrors and shiny surfaces and then a good hoover. I really don't think that things have to look immaculate though. Do you have a shed that you can throw all your car stuff into permanently?

We are in the same boat, house on yesterday, first viewing Saturday.

Have spent the last 5 weeks decorating, decluttering, sorting out the garden, we even hired a skip!

But must say house feels less cluttered and will hopefully be easy to keep this way. [ deluded emotion ]

I am a bit of a clean freak anyway, friends always say home is nice, so fingers crossed.

Would lighting fires for Saturday's viewing be OTT?

Good luck Inky:)

BoiledEgg - We have first viewing Saturday too! Am trying not to hope too much. It's probably the agent's friend Grin

I will chuck stuff into 2 car boots! but shed too small and cupboards and space under beds full of things already. At least we can clear the piles of socks and books on the stairs - lurverly!

I'm trying to keep on top of stuff, and swish cleaning cloths around.

I hated tidying for viewings. It took nearly 2 years to sell our house, and I tidied the house from top to bottom for each viewing. Except the last one, as I really couldn't be bothered anymore. I left my dirty dishes in the sink and even left the undies drying on all the radiators. I don't know why, but this was the viewer that made and offer and bought the house. If only I'd known at the beginning that a lived in look is more appealing Grin

Brilliant - pure! I wonder about all the dusting I did yesterday and rearranging clutter on windowsills and wiping marks off doors.

In the end, the couple said the garden wasn't suitable for their old dog (too many steps). FFS the dog will be dead soon!
