need a plumber with x-ray vision, I think

I'm beginning to suspect there is Something Up in our flat. The bathroom & kitchen share a wall, & we are pretty sure there are holes/gaps in it or something, since mice seem to be able to pass between the bathroom & the kitchen happily.

Now, the bathroom has a real stink of musty damp, & when we take off the side of the bath (to put mouse traps down...) there's a real moisture there. Sitting in the kitchen just now, I am convinced I can hear water dripping somewhere behind the kitchen units (ie in the wall shared with the bathroom). But you can't get to where the problem might be without taking the bloody fitted kitchen out, & from the other side the bath is in the way! The floor is all stone flags as well so not easily lifted up either.

Do plumbers have x ray vision or, I don't know, some sort of submarine equipment to help them in this sort of situation? Is it worth calling one in? To the untrained eye there is nothing that can be done without ripping out kitchen/bathroom... Money is tight so don't want the call out charge for nothing.

Is it the washing machine?

I could hear occasional dripping behind the machine and saw a damp patch on the outside wall but didn't put two and two together until the laminate floor started lifting along the seams.

The water connector to the washer had worked slightly loose and I had a very slow drip there, not enough to come out from under the machine and be visible but enough to make it damp.

Might be worth calling a plumber that has no call out fee and ask them to look under the bath. Whereabouts are you? A MNer might know someone!

Hmm, it could be the washing machine - the machine is next to the sink which is next to the cupboard I can hear the dripping behind - I think they all drain into pipes in the bathroom (??) which is behind them. Not sure.

Didn't know there were plumbers with no call out fees! I'm in London SW2 if anyone knows anyone...

Pull out your washer and have a look before calling someone out. It might be something really simple!

I suggest also take the side off the bath and fill it with water with the plug in. Fill it right up and leave it 10 mins with taps turned off. Then check the bath is not leaking underneath. If you also run your hand along the pipes that lead to the taps and the outlet pipe you will feel damp if is there even if you cant see it dripping. Then pull the plug and keep watching under the bath to see if you see any leaking from around where the outlet pipe joins the plug hole.

We had a bath that leaked underneath around the plug hole where the outlet pipe joined it and also from the pipes that lead up to the taps.

You could also try taking the kickboard under the kitchen units out, they are (normally)held in place by clips to the legs of the units, then get a torch and have a look under
