Wickes gives price but no details for Kitchen quote.

Hi All,

We went to Wickes about 2 weeks ago to get a quote for a new kitchen.

We sat down with the Kitchen Designer and went over what style we like, what appliances, cabinets etc we wanted the quote to cover. All seemed to go well.

After a couple of days they told us the quote was ready and we went to pick it up.

He ran through the design, gave us a prices gave us some drawings (top and front view) but refused to give us a printed breakdown listing all the items in the quote, told us it was against the company's policy to print off quotation details as people were taking them to other stores to get comparable quotes.

Now I found this ridiculous, particularly as our last kitchen bought some years ago also came from Wickes and we got a very detailed quote back then.

Also surely Wickes benefits from people going to B&Q for instance getting a detailed quote and coming over to Wickes for a competitive quote

Anyway we weren't convinces but let it go at the time, later own we phoned the store and asked if it was indeed the case but the I spoke to denied any knowledge of a policy of not giving detailed quotations.

The kitchen designer also said to us if we placed an order (even it was for just one item from the quote) we would then be able to see the full quotation.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this, it all seems very unusual (at least to me)?

The Kitchen Designer is essentially asking us to commit to a large purchase without having a written list of what it consists of.

Very odd.We bought our kitchen from Wickes exactly a year ago and got a full written quote.I wouldn't buy anything if I can't see what I'm getting. Is there another branch nearby that you could ring and ask what the policy is? It sounds ridiculous.

Thx

We will try this. We are just annoyed as we have wasted a week and a half over this.

Hi LovingtheSun.

What we got (aside from the drawings) was simply a piece of paper with the a line item showing the Total List Price, a separate line showing Sale Discount and enough line showing the VAT savings. That was all the "Quote contained".

Was that what you got before placing an order ?

You should be able to pick up a current price list too. I would phone another store and ask them if they will provide you with a detailed quote - if that doesn't work - I'd phone Head Office.

Kitchen companies did my head in - they are so covert about their designs - which is daft because the so called designers can't design for toffee - they basically know how to use a CAD package and need to use this to give you a price - not a design.

I had one idiot who wouldn't even show me his design - in case I stole his precious ideas so I told him to politely get stuffed - buying something shouldn't be that hard - he back tracked and offered to be more helpful but I had already run 1000 miles down the road. If it is that hard to begin with, I start to feel that it can only go downhill.

Kitchen sales people are sharks, they lie (a lot) and they put enormous pressure on you to enter into agreements when you aren't ready, resist the temptation - sales happen all year round for lots of kitchen companies, there is no rush - you will not miss out on a fantastic deal - shop around before you buy appliances off them - you will be able to get anything they sell for a £200 discount online.

Kitchen designers make double glazing salesmen look like pussy cats. Just be aware - they want your money and they will do anything to get it!

Thanks pinkcushion.

It is ridiculous. I can't believe he doesn't realise that without the detailed quote there is a zero per cent chance of us buying.

Even with the detailed quote I would only buy if it is competitive after a comparison.

Maybe I should spell it out to him.

ziizii, no we have an itemised quote (I'm still aghast at £300 for shelf!) for both pre & post sale.
