Cockroach HELP!

rebl · 01/09/2010 09:26

In my general morning wipe down of the kitchen surfaces I found a dead cockroach behind the sugar and coffee jars in the corner of the worksurface. Feeling pretty yucky and sick about it. My kitchen is clean, all my food is stored in click lock tuperwares anyway so I don't understand why I've got cockroachs.

What I've been able to find on the internet so far implies that I have a dirty kitchen and I don't clean it Sad which isn't true. What is true is that the plinths have been off the bottom of the cabinets since the builders started so I guess it could be pretty grim up there.

Everything I can find about getting rid of them seems to imply I have no choice but to get a company in to eradicate them for me. Is this true? We're going to be ripping the kitchen out in 2 weeks time so is it really worth forking out or will I still need to even with the kitchen being ripped out?

Poor you, that's horrible Sad. Have you checked out your local council services? Our city council pest control department identifies and treats cockroach infestations for free because they are such a risk to health.

No I didn't think to do that. I'll call them now. Thank you.

Call your council - some do charge but it will be less than calling a private company.

Right, spoken to the council. They charge £26 so not horrific. They however recommended that because of the fact that its a building site at the moment that we should buy some insecticide spray now and use that under all the kitchen cupboards and then when the builders rip out the wall and kitchen cupboards in 2 weeks time if there is an infestation then the council can come and eradicate it for us.

They however suspect its because we're having to use a temporary drain in the kitchen.

Nuke 'em - they are a nightmare - they are a feature of life out in Texas and I HATE them. Spray as soon as possible.
