Ok, in short
House being doubled in size. We're not living there (uninhabitable now - everything's been ripped out).

Back extension is on bar windows and a few tiles. Extension on the side is almost on bar tiles. They have been with us for 4 months so far.

The inside needs, re-wiring, plastering, all electrical fittings, plumbing for the bathrooms, heating, underfloor heating, new bathrooms fitted (one main, cloakroom and en-suite)/ few walls to be knocked down, plastering, decoration.

I really really want to be in for Christmas....I really wanted to be in for September but that's another matter !.....

Once they get inside, I am wondering how long it'll take to get the full internal re-furb done. I suppose the various people can work with each other - it's not like they have to do each job in turn but how long do you reckon ???

Builder is great - he was the cheaper option but also the option who works for himself and isn't a big company. We really like him and he's doing his best but I'm in the not quite there but out of honeymoon first bit where everything feels exciting and new !!.....

It sounds as if they have broken the back of it and done a lot in four months, Christmas should be realistic if they stay committed to it. Your problem will be if the builder tails off towards the end, starts another project, too far down line for you to get someone else in etc so keep on top of him.

ooer...he's not that nice looking...
however I get your point - he doesn't seem that organised somehow and I like to have an idea of "timeframe" so today I said, "so, how long do you think to tile the rrest of the house (ie the extension bit)" and he goes "oh not long"......his idea and my idea of "not long" are probably different. I did press him for a better estimate and then he said oh about 5 - 6 days. The windows 3 - 4 days - we have a rendering company coming the end of August so I keep re-establishing that we need all those external parts done by the time the rendering people turn up. I think a "goal" is a good thing for him. To be fair, he works very very hard and is always there. He never mucks us around and gets equally frustrated when he's had delays......I feel we've had a good run of it so far but the enduring a build is harder than you think - we've got two little ones in a tiny house with just stuff everywhere and I'm always tripping over someone or something !( I hate to moan as I know this is real life for some people and we're very very lucky to be getting a lovely house at the end of it - I also feel that I'm wishing away the year which also means wishing away a whole year of my DC's life which I should be enjoying !)....
