Tip of the day

Don't get in a panic over Christmas. Keep a box and put a little in it every week - small gifts, wine, nibbles, napkins etc. This way, you'll be more relaxed and less skint in December! keriku

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

hectate we had the one you linked 2 , it has been a huge success for 5 years but last year did start ot leak around several of the inlet pipes , we patche dit up with repair kit - not really successsful so used silicone sealant, our frame has rusted and a couple of the pegs which lock it all together went brittle and snapped last yr , so new one was needed. i paid about £400 for it but got 5 yrs of summer fun out of it, kids in it all the time, even set up climbing frame and slide into it to create flume and diving board!! we ar enow unpacking a new easy up one will let you know if " a poor relation" to frame one

8 hours shock think i wills tick to my 150 x 25 cm one !
12 footer takes about 8 hours to fill.

Get the chemicals from a pool/spa place. Algaecide kills the algae, chlorine kills bacteria, so you need both. Also the pH has to be correct so you need pH adjuster that's appropriate for either hard or soft water, and a kit or strips to test the water with.

this

ok tell me if i got this (above link) can you fill them so they are not brimming at the top so a toddler could paddle or do they have to be brimming with water. Also how long would one take to fill and with that package i linked to how much are the chlorine things and algecide thingabobs and how often do you use them. Finallly anyone seen same deal but cheaper - perhaps 10 ft?

thanks smile

Shiver. I measured the bottom end where the trampoline is, and a 15ft one would fit.
We have this Do you think I should get a filter?
Algaecide, or however you spell it.

What exactly do I need to stop it going green? Just chlorine or something else?
Hecate, mine looks like the one in your link, although my garden sadly doesn't. The DC are that happy though smile
12 ft frame pool here. Now have industrial strength liquid chlorine, algicide and some very cute dip sticks (bit like the midwives use) that change colour and tell you about your chemical levels after the pool went green.

Best fifty quid we've ever spent on the DC.

I'm not going in though; I suspect it may have been peed in.

hecate you cna only have one of those if you can always look as jolly as the fmaily in it
One that size would not fit in your garden Hec.

I REALLY want to get one of these but they cost a bomb and I'm worried about paying and getting ripped off. I'm also worried that I wouldn't be able to get in and out via ladder (it looks very narrow and not too sturdy!)

yes I think so.
i am entertained at myself giving out al this advice when DH does it all!
yep, you have to get it flat and as wrinkle free on the bottom as you can before you start filling.

A question pool owners - I have one of these 15 foot easy up things with an inflatable ring around the top. Yesterdya when i was trying to fill it I hadn't inflated the ring properly (oops) and hundreds of gallons of water swooshed over the garden and almost flooded the kitchen. Its currently half full and I have inflated the ring properly this time but I realise that it seems to have filled lolling over to one side, rather than with its circular footprint flat on the ground, which means if I refill it, I think the same thing will happen again? Is that correct? Do I have no option but to drain it, make sure the footprint is properly flat this time and start all over again?

Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 17:43:10

Add message | Report | Contact poster By Wed 01-Jul-09 17:36:10
OK I need some help here. How do I stop the water going green in our 10 ft pool? We put chemicals in and have a filter already.

I would love a 12 ft semi rigid one. Anyone recommend theirs?
I have a mahoosive paddling pool, that the kids can swim in, does that count? Currently 6 kids in it as I speak. I can float leisurely in it when they are not around.
DH muttering about bigger pool next year...

has fantasies of giving it all up to be a pool boy...
