I want a dress for my 8yr old DD.
I hate the 'Bride of Christ' look on so many websites or worse, the 'tarty' look.
I want some pretty, but understated and not too expensive!
Any suggestions please?

I like this BHS one - not sure if the gold belt would be OK, presumably you could take that off? The polyester might or might not feel OK.

choosyfloosy Sun 15-Feb-09 17:35:17

I rather like this La Redoute one but it might be too 'little girl' for her or for the occasion? Goes up to 1 metre 50, is that any good?

PlumBumMum Sun 15-Feb-09 17:38:03

Oh I got my dds a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately it was expensive my mil was buying but I seen loads of beautiful onees online that weren't that expensive

I'll find the links

choosyfloosy Sun 15-Feb-09 17:40:22

an ebay one - debenhams - like it very much but a lot more formal, and it says 10 years? I guess you could get it altered if it's what you like?

PlumBumMum Sun 15-Feb-09 17:40:56

These ones are inexpensive

I'm with you I was disgusted when I looked up on shop near where I live and it said their dresses were the same as their adult line, I don't want myy dd to look like a bride yet

PortAndLemon Sun 15-Feb-09 17:52:27

are some nice dresses here but they do tend towards the expensive.

PlumBumMum Sun 15-Feb-09 17:54:32

This was the site I really liked and they are not that expensive

www.richandrare.com/

PortAndLemon Sun 15-Feb-09 17:55:17

this and this from Monsoon are nice.

PlumBumMum Sun 15-Feb-09 17:59:07

The rich and rare site I liked the belinda or Jackie
I'm abit sorry now, when I think of how much my mil paid
But dd loved it, the 2 nannies were crying so that was her dress
Have you bought her to try any on, there were some dresses that didn't suit my dd, mostly ones with slimmer straps bit too grown up for my liking

PlumBumMum Sun 15-Feb-09 17:59:56

*brought

PlumBumMum Sun 15-Feb-09 19:53:31

Unfitmother have you had a look yet what do you think?

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 10:18:09

I'm really nosey was wondering if you seen any you liked?

unfitmother Mon 16-Feb-09 17:25:00

Hi, I'm only just in from work, thanks for all the replies. grin
I like the Monsoon dresses but they don't have dd's size. The richandrare site looked good but they all seemed to be full length and I don't want that. The firstcommunionwear.com looks great.
Just realised I haven't looked at all your suggestions yet. blush

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 19:08:34

Oh seen some ballerina length, can't think what site, some were abit ott though

Have you tried some on her incase they don't suit

unfitmother Mon 16-Feb-09 19:17:38

No, I haven't done anything yet. I've just started to think about it, it's in May.

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 19:46:11

My dds is in May, I've only got mine because mil has no daughters and dd is her first gd so she was so excited we went out a couple of weeks ago

Rhubarb Mon 16-Feb-09 19:48:02

I got mine from Ebay. I just looked for a white dress and managed to find a really pretty one. Not an official "communion" dress but far prettier I thought.

So I recommend ebay.

RubyRioja Mon 16-Feb-09 19:52:52

saw loads in M&sthe other day

Rhubarb Mon 16-Feb-09 19:59:56

This is nice.

Cheaper but also nice.

Good one here.

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 20:24:19

Ruby I will not tel you how much mydds cost, I seen on the web 60 cheaperangry

RubyRioja Mon 16-Feb-09 20:25:17

ouch - still a family heirloom?

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 20:29:04

Yes I'm hoping dd2 will suit the same style

It is beautiful, but can't believe it was marked up by that amount angry, more as I'm sure little angels are making profit too

unfitmother Mon 16-Feb-09 20:30:41

Thanks for the tip Ruby.
This looks pretty but simple and is a good price!
I knew MN would be able to point me in the right direction. grin

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 20:32:31

Ah thats lovely unfit, I think I better hide this thread or I will get cross for letting mil get carried away

unfitmother Mon 16-Feb-09 20:32:39

I have only one DD and there are no more in the family, (I have 4 younger nephews!) so don't want to spend a fortune.

RubyRioja Mon 16-Feb-09 20:33:24

Oh that is lovely. But not too adult looking.

mosschops30 Mon 16-Feb-09 20:40:33

I bought one from 'onespecialday' on ebay. It was lovely, I too hate the lace, frills thing, it was quite plain.
I think I paid £40 which was good considering all the others I saw were double that.

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 20:40:58

I just remembered dds dress came with bolearo and bag not advertised on little angels, its making feel a tad better

unfitmother Mon 16-Feb-09 22:26:20

If I had a rich MIL offering to pay I wouldn't mind spending more! wink

What dress did your DD have?

PlumBumMum Mon 16-Feb-09 23:18:54

Go into little angels site its the firstphoto with 2 little girls in it, dress no 91213, only in white, only my dd is going to wear her hair up in a bun

PlumBumMum Tue 17-Feb-09 12:13:54

Here it is in white

Although I know I'm biased it does look much prettier on my dd
