I need a new hoover, the old one is about to die on me. So far I was only able to afford cheap second-hand crap but now am prepared to spend a bit of money if it really does the job, so what would you recommend?

Discussions elsewhere suggest that professional cleaners prefer "Henry" vacuum cleaners. They are reputed to be solid and effective without being vastly expensive. I can not confirm this.

Loads of threads in Good housekeeping. Henry always comes out well, as does Miele. Dyson seem to be love em or hate em - I have a Dyson 24 that I am very happy with, I would start looking out for offers.

Got mine about 2 years ago and it has never been so cheap again, from JL.
