We are... DS not really bothered by them, but has been revising for them.

Is that revising at school or at home?

Ds is sitting them, they have been doing practice papers at school, no revision at home. He doesn't mind, he really likes doing tests (sigh!)

I don't know why they sit them, it makes no difference to them anyway.

No.

Our school has boycotted them. But they are still doing 'tests' just not SATS.

My dd started them today. All her homework over the past few months have been practice sheets. I think she is fed up with seeing them.

She said to me this morning, "As long as I work hard and try my best, the result doesn't matter"

Bless her

dd1 (Y6) is. She hasn't done any revision and they don't give homework at our school (hurrah! )

Yep, dd1 is doing them - she was nervous this morning even though she knows that I'm anti them.

No revising at home as they've done so much at school.

I'm just using it as an opportunity for her to learn that she should always try her best.

Thought for a minute you were doing it at home Eve- phew.
Ds is looking forward to the afternoons this week!

I can't see how the results are accurate if some children have been doing practice papers at school and homework when some children have done nothing. Surly all the revision flags up the areas where they need to work on?

no... no extra work on them at home.

To be honest I've been trying to avoid doing the homework ones.. but DS nags me into doing them.

He will come to me at night and asks me to do the practice papers with him.

belle - I'd be gobsmacked if any child in year 6 hasn't been doing practice papers. My dd was told that she wouldn't learn anything new this year, just revise.

She's been revising all year?

From what I gather from ds they have been doing one part of a paper each day or so for a few weeks.

Report
geekgirl · 10/05/2010 13:49

sorry yes they have been doing revision at school. Just nothing at home.

My DS is today too, he's been revising/practising in school the last few weeks as well as having 'booster classes' for an hour before school once a week for the last few months.

I think they need testing but the tests need to have a wider base and not used in the way they are to form league tables.

Booster classes?
Dear God, some schools take this too far.

My DS is doing them. They did one of each practise papers at school. Definitely no revision at home. He is not worried about them.

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty I'm appalled that any school should spend a year revising. Our children have been taught as normal and would have done really well again this year.

nobody told us about SATS. I heard about them from another parent, this morning.

I don't get it - aren't they meant to let us know if our kids are being tested on stuff?

No

ConDemNation, is your dc in Y2 or Y6? If Y2, they are probably taking a very low-key approach to the SATs which is why you may not have heard anything. If Yr6, I would be very surprised if your dc has not at least mentioned them.

Report
ConDemNation · 10/05/2010 19:14

Thanks Annh, yr2, prob is a low key thing but the mum who told me said it in the context of her son being badly behaved as he was 'worried' about the tests.

Mrz would it not have been quicker just to type 'No'!
