Can someone explain the assessment levels at Year 6 where National average = 100 ?

I appreciate this doesn't make much sense, but hopefully someone will understand!

Was talking to a friend whose kids go to the school we are targetting for ours, and she said they only take kids who score the equivalent of 115 or above. She said 100 was the national average.

Are these SATs levels or something?

I would have thought it would be more likely to be a CAT test score - these are aptitude tests, unlike SATs which are attainment tests. (Both are normalised at 100).

Are CAT tests the sort that are used in entrance exams?

Entrance exams vary a lot - I think some schools will use CAT-type tests.

Anyway, if its one particular school you're interested in, then you can ask them exactly what form their entrance exams take - they should be more than happy to tell you and may even provide some sample papers.
