how long between ofsted visit and "official" report

Am dying to know how my school got on as we've been the "2nd choice" school in our town for so long and it pisses us off. Inspectors came Weds and Thurs, head told DH she was "delighted" but couldn't say more on Fri.

When will I be put out of my misery and find out if I can finally stop having to explain my choice of school? (I'm assuming that an "excellent" might just change people's mind about it though, hey, we do include pupils from a council estate so maybe that's got a teeny bit to do with it all?)

quite a while - few weeks or a month or so. There is a bit of toing and froing agreeing wording. Ours took a bit longer because it spanned Christmas.

The OFSTED inspector will (probably / almost certainly) tell the Head straight away about the overall grade (Grade 1 Outstanding, Grade 2 Good, Grade 3 Satisfactory, Grade 4 Inadequate). After that, the Head will probably not make a public announcement until the Staff and Governors are formally told, (probably in a staff meeting). Then, probably, a letter will go out to pupils / parents (all interested parties) within a day or so announcing the result. You may then obtain the full report from the school.

If there is a longer delay I would be guessing the school is disputing some of the report's findings. The report will eventually appear on the OFSTED web site after about six weeks.

Idle reading:-

There was a shepherd looking after his sheep on the side of a deserted country road. Suddenly, a brand new bright red Porsche 911 appears and screeches to a halt beside him. The driver, a woman wearing a Chanel suit, Ray Bans and a Cartier watch, steps out and asks the shepherd, If I can guess how many sheep you have can I keep one?

The shepherd looks at the large flock and says, Okay.

The woman connects a laptop to a mobile phone fax, enters the NASA website, scans the field using GPS, opens a database linked to 60 Excel files with logarithms and pivot tables then prints out a 150
page report on a high tech mini printer. She studies the report and says to the shepherd, You have exactly 1,586 sheep.

The shepherd replies, that?s correct. You can have the pick of my flock.

The woman packs away her equipment, looks at the flock and puts an animal in the boot of her Porsche.

As she is about to leave, the shepherd says, If I can guess your profession, will you return the animal to me?

The woman thinks for a moment and then agrees.
The shepherd says, You?re an OFSTED inspector.

Correct, responds the woman, but how did you know?

The shepherd replies, Simple. First you come without being invited.
Second, you wasted a lot of time telling me something I already knew.
Third, you don't understand anything about the work I do but interfere anyway.
Now, can I have my dog back?

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a haddock?
One is wet and slippery, and the other's a fish.

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a terrorist?
You can negotiate with a terrorist.

What's the difference between an OFSTED inspector and a paranoid schizophrenic?
The schizophrenic only thinks everyone hates them.

Etc. ect. etc

Whilst the staff at the school will know the overall results along with the governing body, it is not until OFSTED officially release the report that the parents will be told. The letter that they will receive is part of the official report and has to be agreed between the school and OFSTED, along with the contents of the report.

It does depend slightly on holidays etc and also on whether the school want changes to the original draft of the report but 4 to 5 weeks is the usual kind of time frame.

We were inspected on the 28th-29th June, and we just about got the official report out to parents by the end of term - it wasn't available on the website till the beginning of September though.
