OFSTED query from an NQT. thanks!

I'm an NQT having just finished my 1st term.

We are due an OFSTED inspection early next term and last year the school was given notice to improve.

My question is this, as an NQT I've been told both that OFSTED won't really be interested in me beyond the general set up of my room/planning and that I will be considered as a function of the management. eg they will want to know how well I am being supported etc. but I have also been told that I will be observed etc just the same as everybody else.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I think it is likely that you will get a lesson observation. The new framework which began this September (09) uses lesson observation far more than the last one did.
We were 'Ofsteded' in late September and every class had at least one full observation (about half an hour) and many had 2 full obs. In addition there were a significant number of 10 min obs. Having said that, we have no NQT's so you may escape!
Good luck for when the day dawns!

We have just been through a secondary OFSTED and many of our NQTs were inspected. I would expect a visit if I were you.

expect a visit but then celebrate if they don't turn up

it's horrible waiting for that clipboard to come through the door but at least they are only there for a short time now

good luck, keep the lessons you plan simple with clear learning intentions and use techniques and approaches that you know your class will respond well to, dont plan anything too complicated or with too much that can go wrong eg laptops/websites etc (i speak from experince on the laptop front!)

Thanks.

I think everyone's feeling the fear now, tensions are rising.

Not what we need right before Christmas!

Our NQT was inspected last week along with the rest of us.

As an NQT i came down with shingles a few days before ofsted. Never has a disease been so welcome!

The other NQT's were observed. They will prob be more interested in how you're being supported, mentored etc so don't worry. Also, being recently trained I'm sure you'll be fine as you'll be more likely to time and pace your lessons carefully and use AfL to good effect etc.

I was observed as an NQT but wasn't asked anything about mentoringm support etc.

Just make sure you have the following:

LI shared reviewed and revisited

Key vocab displayed and modelled

Pace

Targeted use of TA

Talk partners

Differentiation/challenge

Effective questioning

Learning moved to next stage in plenary

Self assessment

Don't stress it will be ok!!!
