Anyone any experience of split year groups?

Just been to look at the potential primary school for my dcs, in the area we're planning to move to. We knew it was a small school - we hadn't realised that several of the year groups are split, so from an intake of 20ish, there are 30 per class.
The school seems lovely, but I just don't know how this doesn't mean that some children will end up repeating things. Apparently they're usually seperated by age - both my dcs will be half way through the year....

Both my dc are in split classes - dd in year 3/4, ds in year 1/2.

They don't repeat anything as they are taught as individuals with individual targets etc. and also the teachers don't teach the same things each year! Most of their work is topic based but the emphasis has been different depending on dc's ability at the time.

dd was actually in a year 1/2 class with a teacher and then a year 2/3 with the same teacher and still didn't do anything twice.

I was taught like this though so it doesn't seem odd to me!

Agreed, I've taught all combinations of split year groups in primary and used a two year cycle so nothing is repeated. Individual targeting means you teach according to the child's needs.

So would you say almost an advantage? I went by myself to the school and now feel the whole decision on whether to move depends on this school, and so it's all resting on me, if you know what i mean...
