I love those, DS found them the other day. Presumably they are nursery rhymes, so a bit weird in the way that nursery rhymes often are!

OK, my stab at the first one as a direct translation:

In his house, a big stag was looking out of the window. A rabbit came along and knocked at the door. "Stag, stag, let me in, or the huntsman will kill me!" "come in rabbit, and shake my hand"

Scanning:
One big deer was in his house
sitting quietly as a mouse
when a rabbit gave a shout
and he popped his antlers out;

"Stag, stag, let me in! Or the dinner pot I'll land in!"

"come in rabbit, come in please, and shake my hand".

DS sings all of those at school but I don't bother trying to translate them

Why do you want to sing them in English anyway - why not just translate what they mean and sing them in French?

I insist on singing the English version if there is one (DSs bilingual) like for Incy Wincy Spider but can't see the point of singing French songs in English iyswim?

Iheartdusty, in Essex (have namechanged BTW). I'm over 40, and I think it's just an old-fashioned song, a bit like 'Run Rabbit' - after all, we don't really talk about huntsman and shooting fluffy bunnies these days do we!
