OK, how do you sew labels into socks, do you sew them onto the inside (won't they itch?) or do you sew them onto the outside (the socks I have don't fold down so the name would be on show?) Advice please. Thanks.

I don't bother with socks
Perhaps I should. My reasoning is surely they don't take their socks off!

dd is surprisingly in great humour, not overly tired and being very sweet and helpful (very out of character for her
) Can't see it lasting but nice wile it does

They do, for pe!
I put names on socks in reception but not in higher years. Cheap enough to replace imo.
getting on new thread
DS is not starting till 24th Sept
On the sock front, don't think I am going to bother labelling them TBH.

ours go in on pe days already wearing PE gear so no need for sock labeling thankfully

I only label the games socks, as the others are cheap. Fold label in half and sew the two ends to the edge of the sock in a loop which can be tucked in (if they are bothered) - otherwise they don't stretch properly.

Well done PinkTulips! I can't believe your first day went so smoothly! Your children sound magnificently confident and capable.

Great to hear that they both got off to a good start PT!
Even though I've got name tapes I went out and bought a laundry marker today (only 2 left in Sainsbury's) together with some white mending tape. Hopefully the pen won't bleed too much and I'll just have to iron on a small square with his initials to each sock. Small village school so no one else with same initials in his class. Shrug, might work!
Still have to do turn ups on his trousers. Bought 2 from M&S age 5 but they are way too long. Got another pair from Sainsbury's age 4 which are fine so I'll have to get the sewing kit out soon!
DD1 back at pre-school tomorrow. She was a bit upset about it this morning but by the afternoon was proudly bragging to DS1 that she'll get to play with her friends tomorrow.

So have you been letting your DC wear their school shoes to wear them in before the big day.
We have a 20 min walk to and from school and she will be in them all day as well.
She is wearing them round the house but tbh that doesn't really give you much of an idea of how comfy they are does it.
Am planning a trip out in them tomorrow -God I sound precious, but I do remember how often I got blisters on the first week of a new term when I was at school.

Katiestar - originally I put them on the garment label already in the neck but he freaked out so I cut it all out and went for putting it with the washing lables in the side seam.

still norks, our school is across the road and dd is harsh on shoes, has been known to destroy a pair 10 mins after buying so i figured it was safer to keep them in the box til this morning and that blister risk was low.
i sewed dd's labels on the inside of the collar over the hangy on hook tab thing and she's not complained.
Can I ask what everyone is sending for a breaktime snack?
I'm looking for alternatives to a banana

boring apple here but she's happy, will alternate with some grapes, manderines, bananas or other fruit when she gets bored but she's quite likes the regular routine of having the same food every day
Thanks, I don't think the school provides fruit
I suppose I can always sent a biccie or a cereal bar

where do you live Eldon?
Am sure it is law in the uk!
ah we are going private so it probably doesn't apply
Sooo, do people write initials on labels with marker pen plus sew on labels.
Or is that too much?
