I have heard mixed reports about the future of KS1 SATS. Will next years yr 2's be doing SATS?

Anyone know? I really don't ant DS to do them but don't want to get my hopes up if it is rubbish.

Thank you

Not yet, but teaching and head-teachers unions are talking about boycotting them - yay!

No, that's KS2 SATs, BigTillyMint.

Y2 are now given an end of year teacher assessment, which is drawn from a wide variety of evidence collated all year from September, a tiny part of which is the tests.

KS1 assessment has been like this for 5 years now.

Do KS1 take place at the same time in all schools or do the dates vary?

Report
Feenie · 13/02/2010 20:31

They vary - any time from January to June, at a time of the school's own choosing.

I'm leaving mine to the last minute

Depends how you want to use them, doesn't it - you could do them in January, and use them to inform future teaching, or at the last minute to confirm everything you knew already without the tests telling you!

I only inherited the class in January so want a chance to teach them for a term before I use the tests. I would do it earlier if I'd taught them since September.

Yes, think I would probably do the same under those circs, mrz.

I do mine in June as well mrz. It's quite relaxed at that time of year, and we've got all out TAs pretty much sorted by then.

Anyone using APP for maths? What a massive section for fractions! No 2x, 5x, 10x tables that I can see. No mention of missing numbers. Am I missing something?

Yes they say test on the pupil packs too

I wonder which pillock made that decision?

I looked at 2007 & 2005 and they just say booklet

Report
Feenie · 16/02/2010 10:05

What possible justification could they have for changing it?

i am confused! my dd2 is in y2 and i am sure we were told that they do sit tests in literacy and numeracy. sometime in may (possibly around same time as ds is doing ks2 sats in may fun time in our house!)however if teacher knows they could have done better to allow for an 'off' day they can use teacher assessment similarly if child does a lot better than normal again the teacher assessment could be used. papers are marked in school not externally likes ks2 sats.

KS1 tests can be used at any time from now until the end of June. If there was a big discrepancy between the tests and teacher assessment then the teacher needs to ask themselves why - it may be the child has had an off day or even an on-day.

so am I right in thinking that they do tests?

Report
mrz · 18/02/2010 10:58

yes they do tests but the level reported to parents the LA and Government is the teacher assessment.
