At what age is it acceptable to differentiate between work and play?

DD's class is always being told work is hard and not fun- fun is for the playground.
Just wondering at what age your DC's are coming home with this message?
DD is year 2!

I would hope never! But that's one of the reasons we home educate - I never want them to separate learning from life and from fun.

Just spent the whole of the Easter break having'fun learning' and just feel so sad that the term will inevitably bring home the whole dispondant thing again

God, that is depressing. Work should be fun - learning is fun, if it's allowed. What a shame. I'm lucky - went to great schools which instilled a real love of learning, and kept the joy of it.

If learning is not fun then the children will not learn as well as they would if the had fun doing it. I am a great advocate of children learning from doing.

Have you heard the teacher say this? Or just from dd and her friends?

Surely learning should always be fun? How sad. If my ds came home saying that I'd be having a word with his teacher. I would expect hard work to come at GCSEs at the earliest and preferably not before 6th form.
