Help with spelling and homework

Hi. DD1 is in YR1 and now having to do homework and spelling. She is 5 so I do feel homework and spelling is a lot for her to take in. She has gone from reception class where they were learning phonics to now spelling words out. My problem is she can hardly write these words let alone spell them. She is one of the younger ones in her class and it does seem her class mates are coping well but she seems to really struggle. She tells me she hates school and finds it boring. I don't push her and try to make things fun but she has no interest doing any work at home. I have tried doing a little each night going through her spellings etc (they get tested on a Monday, again, I personally dont agree with this) then some over the weekend but dont keep her sat to the table for hours. Yet even 5 minutes is too long. She just throws her pencil down and says she cant do it and finds it boring. She has never really settled and got stuck in to school but I had high hopes with her moving up a year and getting a new teacher that she would start enjoying it (well as best as you can at school). I dont expect her to be top of her class and get every thing right I just want her to be happy and have a little enthusiasm for learning. Am I expecting too much? Any ideas on how to make spelling fun? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I have spoken to her teacher but she is seems to feel all is going well and they all just need time to settle in to YR1.

maybe she is just very tired when homework time comes round and is actually coping in school if teacher says all is well.

I thinks she is very tired Cornsilk. She is in bed by 7pm and always falls straight to sleep and needs to be woken at 7am. I guess I have been naive to think she would at least enjoy the first 2 years of school before the boredom set in and she couldnt be bothered. I have little faith in what the teacher tells me. I think its because if I ask her about DD she generalises and refers to the whole class not actually about DD and somehow that makes me uneasy (if that makes any sense??)I think I just need to chill perhaps and wait for her to want the help?
