What do you take for Show & Tell?

Hello,

Can anyone help with this? My dd is in reception, and there's a notice gone up on their class noticeboard to say that Friday afternoons will be Show & Tell time, so please can we send them in with something. Any thoughts as to what, exactly? Is it a favourite book / toy / object or do I have to start being more creative and send her with my ebay art deco bargains or her father's London Marathon medal?

(it's a Catholic state primary, btw)

oooh, I never thought about them beginning with the letters they've been doing. Wonder if I could find some ants (there's usually a few in the conservatory) to be a-a-a-a ants crawling up her arm? That should enliven proceedings...

If you haven't been given a 'theme' then make it something that your dd likes or can easily talk about. Other children are encouraged to ask questions so don't send her in with something she knows nothing about!

How about a favourite toy or something found on a walk or on the beach? Families is a topic that they cover in Reception so she could take in a photo of you all or her siblings or pets.

My DD has show and tell. She has chosen to take in a picture frame with all her friends from birth (my NCT class). We were specifically told no toys, but something special to them. My DD has this picture by her bed, and it has pics of her best friends on there.

For her next show and tell, I think she is planning on taking in a postcard from her holiday or a programe from a ballet show she has been in. (She is lining them up!)

My dd's take any old bit of shite object that is special to them at that very precise minute ...it varies greatly!

It should be the choice of your DD, however boring or cringeworthy.

Most children will take their favourite toy, or perhaps a photo of the family or a souvenire from holiday.

My dd and most of her classmates usually take a favourite toy. DD last week took a jewellery box that she's crafted out of cardboard and sellotape of course she didn't give it a lid or any opening at all, so there's not actually any jewellery in it. lol

But yes, as others have said, something she can talk a bit about - I think ds1 took mainly favourite toys in reception.

My DDs took in a box of shells/pebbles etc they found on the beach. Conkers/acorns/sycamore seeds/pretty autumn leaves found at the local park?

Doesn't have to be complicated, remember, they're only littlies!

Last Year when DD in Yr 1 - they asked for it to be show and tell not show off and tell....which made me smile. Usually those who chose something not a toy - shells/birdsnest/phots/theatre programme etc tended to be the ones chosen when time was limited...I think she took a woodlice once - if it serves the purpose it will be fine

"Bring and brag" is the other popular name for it....DS1 didn't have it but DS2 usually took some plastic toy.

Ds wpould prob. take in the empty toilet roll tubes he wears more or less permanently on wrists in manner of gauntlets.

In the past year DCs have taken in: a book on dolphins; conkers; tennis racket; clockwork mouse; big pine cone; photo's of new baby; and the new baby (pre-school and I was there too) .

It doesn't matter what it is as long as your DCs have something to say about it.

Im a teacher and my class are allowed to bring anything but I do love it when they bring photos. Generates a lot of discussion and allows us to find out about their families/hobbies etc.
