Reception 2009 - Have I missed the application dates? Please help!

DD (3) starts nursery tomorrow. The nursery is attached to the local primary she is in the catchment area for. However, we really want to try and get her into a different local primary school (all state btw).

It has just occurred to me that possibly I should already have made an application for a place in September 2009. DD is very young in her year, but will be just 4 in August 2009.

I also have made no application as yet for a place at the school she is in the catchment area for. Have I completely screwed it up? I'm in a total panic and just can't find any information online.

Thanks to anyone who can shed any light.

Deadline usually Feb or thereabouts, ime.

Check the website of your LEA, it varies from area to area. V unlikely that you've missed the boat already, unless you're applying to the kind of private school that laugh at you if your child is over 6 weeks old.

In our area the application will have to be made by Jan '09 and you will get a resopnse in May '09. I'm currently doind secondary transfer for DS1 and that has to be completed pan-London by 24th October. i'm sure you are still in plenty of time. Have you checked the website for you rlocal authority?

It all depends on which county you're in. I'm having to apply to 2 different counties as I don't know which one I'll be living in next Sept- one of them has a closing date of end Sept and the other is end of Nov. All the info should be on your county .gov website.

i think it depends on your local council, but i doubt if you have missed it. in our borough the forms are available from 1st nov and have to be in in january. i think they sort out all the kids going this year and then start the applications for the next years intake.
check the website for your local council, they should ahve an education section.

Deadline for Bucks schools is in November so check with your LEA asap.

I should think you're fine - ours is usually end of November. Look up Admissions Policy on your LEA website; you might even find an online form you can do .

Thanks guys (my shoulders are slowly working themselves from up around my ears!).

I've looked on the LEA site - just can't seem to find the bit of info I need, but I'll call the school tomorrow. The school we want is in Houslow, but we are living on Ealing/Hounslow boarders (in case anyone out there knows specifically about this LEA).

Last year for that area was Feb Go into any local primary and ask for a form

DrHorrible - bless you.

The LEA website just says if your child is born between blah blah they are entitled to a place.

Hounslow deadline seems to be Feb but this is last year's document.

Our LEA (also London) don't even produce their brochure till November, and deadline last year was 31st Jan iirc.

Can't believe the difference between LEA's- we'll have been allocated our place 2 months before some of you have even applied- we find out early Dec.

We didn't find out till May 4th or thereabouts. Really nailbiting for anyone who's genuinely not certain -- we knew dd2 would get a place under sibling criteria, so wasn't quite so bad.

Thanks Chippy - have downloaded and read through. Looks like forms are avail from now (september) and that indeed, we have until Feb to apply, though none of info is of course specific to this school. Will make sure I pick up forms tomorrow.

The school we're after is so good we actually got approached by a doc crew for the bbc when we were house hunting (unsucessfully) in their catchment area - the estate agents passed them our details . No ta - don't want my parental neurosis over DD's education broadcast to the nation!

I don't imagine we'll have much luck, but our next door neighbours boys have managed to transfer. The eldest did it mid-year and then the little one got offered a place at the beginning of the following school year.

Wish me luck!

You should find that you get a form via the nursery school - we did and I had the headteacher chasing me to send it back - the deadline was Oct and I was waiting until a days holiday as you had to take it to the school with the birth certificate and get a receipt, etc.... then found out that I could have left it with the nursery staff! I didnt take her to nursery as we used the wraparound care, but they had forgot to let me know via that!! Schools are an enigma in my opinion! just give the school office a call - they will be well used to that query!
