we have been told picnics need to be in carrier bags with name on.
Worried he will have to carry it round all day.. will they leave it on the coach until lunch?
If they have to carry it I feel we should be putting them in something he can carry on his back leaving his hands free.
Does he need spare clothes?

I think they'll leave it on the coach

I would freeze teh butty and ptu it in the bag in the morning, by lunchtime it will be cool but defrosted and will act as a mini ice block for hte rest of the packed lunch (don't pack a yoghurt)

Pack suncream and a sun hat

no need for more clothing unless the school specifies

T shirt with SLEEVES in case hot (short not long) - i.e. nopt vest

LIZS · 17/06/2008 19:25

They'll probably put them all in a large box and put them aside somewhere. If they are little they will atke spares anyway. Agree suncream (or apply Allday one), hat , waterproof and maybe a waterbottle but ask as they may well nto wnat the kdis encumbered.

nursery class? I very much doubt they'll makethem carry the lunches then

nappyelite · 17/06/2008 19:36

I'd be really worried too so you're not alone He will be fine though and will have a ball, then spend the whole of the next year nagging you as to when the next one is.
Agree wholeheartedly with no yoghurt- mucky stuff even when finished. advise non important packaging if you choose a lunchbox- have lost several in plastic bags when various kiddies have accidentally binned the whole bag, box and all, after lunch.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 17/06/2008 19:37

ooh am I supposed to put lunch in a lunchbox and then the carrier bag?

misdee · 17/06/2008 19:39

nojust the bag. are they saying put it in a bag so it can be disposed of once eaten.

freeze a couple of frubes and use them as a way of keeping it cold.

wasn't going to send him with yoghurt.. if I freeze the orange juice carton will that do?

misdee I've been looking for you!

On DS's first school trip, I was more concerned about whether the coach had seatbelts, but then I can be a tad anal.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 17/06/2008 20:10

I checked about the seatbelts this morning..

sorry me again/..... just been thinking about toilets! he isn't good at bum wiping so normally waits till he comes home to have a poo

will someone help him?

Use an old ice cream tub, not usual lunchbox, so doesn't matter if it gets lost. Rolls not sarnies - more bread to filling, so go less slimy & are more filling. Mini tube of Pringles? Small packet nuts/fruit & nuts? Muesli bar? Apples not bananas, more robust. Juice in carton.

No idea about the bum wiping! I imagine it's not uncommon for kids in nursey class to need help...

DS is going on his first school trip on Monday - he's in a mixed nursery/reception class and is very excited .

Can't decide what to put in his lunch (we have also been asked to put it in a named plastic bag) - need to decide soon .

now just have to work out what DS2 and I are going to do for a whole school day together without DS1

I am also looking forward to the fact that DD has pre-school in the afternoon - so I will have two whole hours to myself

bythepowerofgreyskull · 17/06/2008 21:54

I have given DS1 a mini twix, bag of crisps, a handfull of grapes, a roll, a mini pork pie, 2 cartons of orange juice.

he will eat
the crisps, chocolate, grapes and juice, but I didn't feel I could just give him that.

I should pack for holiday.. but will probably go into town to see if I can find a sundress.
