Hi
I used to work with a child who was like this.
A couple of things that worked for him were:-
Using jelly letters ( squishy shapes of each letter) and getting him to feel round them and feel their shape. Trace round them then write the letter inside the shape, saying the sound of the letter as he wrote.
( this also used when doing phonics - ee, ay, ie etc
Getting plastic/ foam letters - get them to sound out the word , then pick out the correct letters and put them in the right order , then right the word afterwards.
Initially start with only a few letters - so if word is cat , put out a,t,p,c - get them to locate correct letters , put them in right order them write them down .
As they become more confident, increase the choice of letters .
Eventually they won't need the letter prompts but it can take a while!
Writing is often the last skill to come as it requires several skills .
Hope this helps
