Does anyone have any views on/ experiences of this school?

I started a thread asking about prep schools near me, and one of the posters mentioned this state primary which seems to have a lot of the characteristics we were looking for (socially diverse, good pastoral care, academically strong, good range of destination schools).

I've done some research and it sounds very good - no catchment area, but we are CofE and DS is baptised, so going by current admission stats we would have a decent chance of getting in (especially if we went to the attached church - we currently go to a different one).

We considered it for our child, but ended up going with another (state) primary. Good points - high emphasis on academic results, manners, Christian ethos, wide range of subjects taught, good involvement in the wider church community. Bad points - VERY little outside space, which means younger children don't get much exercise as they can't walk as far as the older ones can. Possibly too much emphasis on academics (they stream into two classes higher up the school). Head is very...er....strong willed? - I think if you disagreed with her about things you would get short shrift.
I think in general parents who choose it are happy with it, but it isn't for everyone.

Thanks very much Sellotape, that is really helpful.

I think they've just (as in this term) got a new headmaster, but don't know very much about him.

DH and I were both academic and hopelessly unsporty, but DS might be totally different. And even if he is as untalented as us, getting physical exercise would still be a good thing - I got away with doing very little at school, but regret it now.

Hi I'm reopening this thread as I'm interested to know if there are updates on this school.

Thank you for your response

Yes I noticed that there's a new head.

I'm wondering whether this has been a good change?

The school was highly academic I'm wondering if this is still the case!
