Haven't done pupil enrollment form eeeek!!!

So we left for a long holiday immediately after my DD's one and only settling in session. I've only just looked through the pack we were given and discovered to my horror that there is a pupil enrollment form (and the universal lunches form). I'm usually quite disorganised but this is taking it to a whole new level!! I presume the place is ok. We did get a letter from the school while we were away (and after the deadline for the forms) about her starting day (as they are doing a staggered start). But I would love to hear from anyone in the know - or from any other equally useless mothers who may have done it in the past who can reassure me. I'm also keeping fingers and toes crossed that I won't now be forced to make packed lunches for the whole term (sob!!!). Think I have a sleepless night ahead of me....

Just phone them or pop into the school office as soon as they open. At least 50% of parents who have kids already in the school won't have even opened the pack based on my experience. Ours assume you are taking free school meals unless you state otherwise and most people just utilise it at the start and then decide later. You seriously won't be the only one. Near us a lot of people disappear for the whole summer too, so won't answer post.

I didn't get told when the forms were due to be returned to the school so I thought I just took them back when I took dd for first dayShock! There is no mention of posting or dropping it back to the school on any of the forms I got!?

Thank you smellyboot - that made me feel better! Bumpmadethemjump - perhaps it is just a school specific thing? It doesn't say anything on the forms but there was a covering letter with mine saying to return them by 10 July. So I think maybe don't worry. I'm less concerned about the school place and now just worried about school lunches. After 2 years of making them for pre-school I was looking forward to a year or two off - lazy mummy ;-) Typically been bigging up hot meals to DD.

The office may also be open a couple of days before school starts. Ours is open Fri 2nd for teachers but DC start 5th. The reception DC start between 5th and 12th as they stagger them too. Our office staff will be in from 1st at the latest.

Most schools have an online order system for hot meals where you order a minimum of 2 weeks in advance direct with the catering company, even for free ones. You can choose normal, vegetarian, baked potato etc by day. Deadline for ordering for wc 5th for ours is midnight today. Some schools do theirs on paper still but with similar deadlines. It is very likely that you will have to send in packed lunches for the first week, unless you are doing mornings only but you shouldn't be stuck with them all term!

Just pretend you gave it in but they must have lost it.

Be really understanding and nice about it though.

Don't do that!
They will know and it set you up to being " one of those parents"
Fill it in and post it today. Secretaries will be in this week doing processing. They may not have done this yet and if they have then they will make a face and then process it. Don't leave it to the day DC starts as there is masses to do then.
If you want to be extra pleasant add a note saying you have been away all summer and apologise for missing the date. Do it today though.
We usually keep school places for a fortnight before we think they are not coming so you should still have a place. School dinners are great for little ones as they socialise more and get to know the big kids. Year 6 s often help pour water and they LOVE reception kids and look out for them. Also a hot dinner is great before they go out to play in the yard in winter. Enjoy not making packed lunches!
