Hi there. Looking for some advice and information on theE flush schoolling system and entry points.
I have one child who will be starting primary one in August in scotland but in November wer moving south hopefully, can anyone explain reception as i think this is where my child will go, 4 will be5 very start of jan.
Is Reception just equivalent to Primary 1 in Scotland or is it 2nd year nursey? (Preschool) iv had so many diffrent answers when asking

Thank you

Given your child's age they will indeed be going into Reception.

P1 is broadly equivalent to Y1 in England. The average age in P1 is about 6 months older than in Reception. Reception is supposed to be less formal than Y1 with the emphasis on learning through play and preparing children for the more formal schooling that will start in Y1.

In some ways the change will be good for your child as instead of being one of the very youngest in P1 they will be right in the middle of the intake for reception. Easier than moving a child who has a March-August birthday who would probably be inserted into Y1 having not done reception or P1!

http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/files/2014/08/EYFSParentsGuide-amended.pdf explains all about the Early Years Foundation Stage (your child will follow this curriculum until the Sept after their 5th birthday)

Thank you for your help.
Just a bit apprehensive.
My older child is 7 (April birthday) and starting p3 in 2 weeks. Where would his entry be in November when we move?
