In-year Primary School Place issue in Amersham

We have moved in to amersham and we have applied my son to in-year application for year 1 (Sep 2016) and we have allocated a place in chesham (Waterside combined school) which is very inconvenience for us.

We have a daughter in year 3 she is going in to nearby school in amersham . The problem we have is my wife need to manage both children drop,pickup and school meetings,sports days etc and she is not having driving licence.

Can anyone share their experiences how to manage this type of scenario.

As you know i don't want to refuse the allocated place because my son is not going to have any school place in Sep 2016.

The distance from my home to school seems to be 3.2 miles

Thanks for your help

If the new school is over 2 miles from home by the shortest safe walking route the LA must provide free transport for your son. The transport is just for him, not for you or your wife. You will need to sort out your own transport arrangements for school meetings and any other events at the school you want to attend. However, it solves the basic problem of getting your son to and from school.

Your wife could take intensive driving lessons over the summer?

Realistically, it is difficult to manage without your own transport. Amersham, like many areas, is short of school places. You will get transport for your child to go to Waterside in the morning and back again in the afternoon. I am surprised Waterside is 3.2 miles from Amersham. It would not be that far from Amersham on the Hill via Chesham Bois. I know the area quite well. Have you contacted Bucks Admissions to talk about transport? You must do this immediately. You can also keep checking on their web site to see if any places at nearer schools come up. You also need to be in touch with the school your DD is going to. When she starts, he will be a sibling. They may get a vacancy and you need to have him on the waitinglist.

Chalfont Valley e-Act has a Y1 place showing on Bucks CC Primary school vacancies web page. Is this nearer or preferable? It is between Amersham and Little Chalfont. The In Year Admission page also has details about applying for transport. Have you found this?

@bojorojo

Thanks for your reply.

I spoke with admissions team and they asked me to send an email with the details which i have done.

I have checked the list but this was updated on 20th June 2016.We are in Stanley hill area which why it shows 3.2 miles.I hope i will get some good news otherwise it is going to be messy for my wife and me as well to taking care of both children's in different schools.

Regarding DD she is going to woodside so the linked school is st.george which is very difficult to get a place for my son and My DD confirmed she is going to start from 5th Sep 2016

Gg

Would you count paid transport from the LA as good news? As that's probably the best news likely.

Thats great! Good for you! It looks like it's really hard getting placed in St George's and Woodside...I'm hoping for the best...atleast Chalfont academy not Waterside 😊
