Purple school uniform? Please help me :-)

DD starts senior school in September and I need to source black rugby socks with a purple band on the foldover. She is tiny and the socks they sell are far too big. I'm struggling to find a prep who may have similar uniform. Can anyone suggest a school uniform that might be suitable so I can order the socks only? Thanks

Have you tried the John Lewis website? They sell uniforms for a huge number of schools.

Thanks, yes I have been through the JL site, school by school!
The football socks site has some in grey with the right purple top but I need black :-(.
I'm just hoping that someone can suggest a school with purple uniform so I can direct my search a bit! Thanks again

Can the supplier not order smaller ones for you? I had to do similar with a swimsuit in school colours. Or get plain black until you find some.

Thanks for these.
LIZS no the supplier has had no other requests for socks smaller than the 3-5 size. It was a new uniform last year and this is the first year with a Y7 intake.
insancerre and Brie thanks for the suggestions alas no uniform socks or the wrong design.
Please keep them coming. Thanks

DD1's PE socks shrank quite a bit the first time they were washed. It might be worth buying the 3-5s and putting them in a very hot wash!

I think this is the school's problem more than yours. Just write an email letting them know of the problem, and that your DD will be in plain black rugby socks until the suppliers are providing a wider range of stock.

Can you get the smallest size they do and tie elastic around the inside of the fold to hold them up? Separately so no sewing required. Unless I'm misunderstanding the fold.

Grin did it! Still massive: once I've exhausted all possibilities I'll cut the foldover off and herringbone it onto plain black ones.
Such a PiTA but she's an anxious thing and I don't want her to be stressed. I've already lashed out on a seamstress to take in the blazer and shorten the kilt. (blazer cost less than £30 to buy, over £30 to alter). sigh

The Perse school in Cambridge gas these colours (triple purple band though): www.perseschoolkit.co.uk/product-category/prep-school/

Have you tried them on her?, as I found DS's came up small, I had to buy the next ones up for him.

Alternatively you could try tumble drying them, they might shrink.

Honestly just tell the school that she'll be in plain black until her feet have grown and ask them for written confirmation that this will be OK so you can show it to her and reassure her.

Do you know anyone who knits, who could make them for you? I would offer, but I am pretty slooooow at knitting socks.

Shrinking rugby socks is my speciality! Send to me, I'll soon fix them! Wink

This. It really isn't your problem if they don't do them in your DDs size.

Is this your first foray into Independent education? You seem a bit overawed. Just talk to them.

It's not independent: just a recently academised (is that a word?) school with an ambitious head who the children are afraid of.
She doesn't want to stand out. Had a 10 day transition and has already been bullied. I just want to be sure I've covered every angle.
Don't know why I didn't think of Kimbolton! exH went there many moons ago and I know several staff and pupils....their socks are black with just the right purple top...except they say KIMBOLTON in white letters down the side grrr!

Thanks for all your suggestions: I am looking at them all!

The Glasgow Academy (not your type of Academy) has socks with a purple stripe but they have a white surround too which presumably is no good?

Wash them and they'll probably shrink. Ours always doConfused
And if that doesn't work put them in tumble dryer (and let us know where you found socks that don't shrink).

How many times have you spoken to the school about this? When DD started primary, she was teeny tiny and the smallest logo cardigan that the school stocked (3-4) was huge on her. Several times I was told that was the smallest size they did. I refused to buy it and said I'd send her in a plain supermarket cardi of the appropriate colour. Lo and behold, they contacted the supplier and eventually managed to source a size 2-3 for her.
Worth another ask perhaps?

Tell the school, they may have others with the same problem & they may like to know the problem so they can offer a solution.

Look up the independent school suppliers school blazer & Perry uniform, the second may be able to help directly.

Thanks. I've already checked Blazer, but have now contacted Perry.
